ZeroDamage December 9, 2008 Share ZeroDamage Member December 9, 2008 All Youtube videos are in widescreen on their site now. Now all of the videos show in widescreen but many are and the code in the forums only shows the normal 4:3 format. We may want to update the code to support the widescreen and maybe even the HD content. <h2 class="module_title">Forcing YouTube to Play HD Videos </h2> <h3 class="module_subtitle">Normal Mode, Hi-Res and HD Mode</h3> Provided that the user, you're watching, uploaded a high quality video with the specs above, you should be able to force YouTube to display hi-def videos even though you're not logged into YouTube. For instance, this video displays in normal mode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfWXRybZS4A Now, for the same video to display in hi-res mode or HD mode, the trick is to append &fmt=6 &fmt=18 or &fmt=22 to the end of the URL. &fmt=6 increases the resolution from 320x240 to 448x336, Flash 7 video @ 900Kbps; audio @ 44.1KHz 96Kbps Mono CBR. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfWXRybZS4A&fmt=6 &fmt=18 increases the resolution to 480x360, H.264 video @ 512Kbps; audio @ 44.1KHz 128Kbps Stereo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfWXRybZS4A&fmt=18 &fmt=22 increases the resolution to 1280×720 (720p), H.264 video @ 1024Kbps; audio @ 44.1KHz 232Kbps Stereo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfWXRybZS4A&fmt=22 <h2 class="module_title">How Can I Embed a High Quality YouTube Video? </h2> <h3 class="module_subtitle">Append The Right Code</h3> All you need to do is append &ap=%2526fmt%3D18 to the YouTube URL video. If this is the YouTube video URL: Then the video URL will look like this: Then the embedding code will be this: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=" src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> http://www.squidoo.com/youtubehd
Flitterkill December 9, 2008 Share Flitterkill GC Board Member December 9, 2008 [youtube]xYqJ-8FiXCI[/youtube] Oldstyle square ones are fine too, just have black bars on the side [youtube]nR4KN6EfX6M[/youtube] Note the bbcode is now "youtube" instead of "utube" As much fun as related links are at the end of the video, YouTube has a bit of a porn spam problem with those at the moment and so they are disabled. -Fk

ZeroDamage December 9, 2008 Author Share ZeroDamage Member December 9, 2008 where are you making these changes oh masterful juan? I am guessing this is happening in a plugin or module.... maybe. And does the new tag support the larger HD formats?

Flitterkill December 9, 2008 Share Flitterkill GC Board Member December 9, 2008 If you are playing around now Stutterman, we should probably create a separate bb for the HD versions. Some of those clips can stream a ginormous amount of data (1gig +) and with bandwidth caps becoming more prevalent... -Fk
stutters December 9, 2008 Share stutters GC Alumni December 9, 2008 oh, right. ...unless you're talking about .gc bandwidth, which, you're not, because that'd be silly.
ZeroDamage December 9, 2008 Author Share ZeroDamage Member December 9, 2008 Yeah, it would only use Google's and the person watching the videos bandwidth. GC' bandwidth would not be touched.
