Routine Maintenance?

So almost daily now I'm getting that the Steam servers are down for routine maintenance. Anyone else seeing this on a fairly regular basis now? Can't join Steam friends when it does this, and i was just wondering if it was just me or if everyone got this, and maybe if anyone knew why they are doing so much "routine maintenance"?

I've lost connection to Steam a few times in the past hour. Probably wouldn't notice it, but I had a chat window open. When I came back, it had a bunch of those steam messages.
