lazarus August 3, 2009 Share lazarus Member August 3, 2009 i have a friend who owns a cafe, and asked me a question today that i didnt have an answer. so i turn to you informative people. She is wondering if she needs MORE ip addresses (she currently has 4)? I didn't know why she has that many to begin with. I thought ip addresses were more or less like mailing addresses. so i was thinking that she just needs more bandwidth. Can yall enlighten me? akaM2 August 3, 2009 Share akaM2 Member August 3, 2009 If she is running a cafe with wifi, she is probably talking about bandwidth. You really would only need 1 IP and then a router to give out local IP's to all the clients. The only thing I could think about with IP would be that over 100 people are connecting on a daily basis and the router is reserving the IP for any given device for atleast 24 hours. You would probably need to set it to refresh IP reservations to a lower time limit, like 4-5 hours maybe.
ZeroDamage August 3, 2009 Share ZeroDamage Member August 3, 2009 As long as all of her customers are using wifi behind a NAT enabled Router, then she will only really need 1 ip address. Bust Business customers from most ISP's get 2-4 IP's by default.
