recommend a sound card?

Im using Win 7.

Whats the suggestions for sound cards nowadays?

 

Id like nice 3d gaming sound. I also record but I can use my M-Audio USB device for that instead of the soundcard isnt built to handle it.

 

But most importantly, Id like it to not crash all the time, or advertise that it plays great 3d sound then sound like poop. That would be the main points I think

I am interested in this as well. I have a very hard time with directional hearing, with my headphones on, I can hear footsteps close to me, but I have NO idea where they are coming from. So maybe some new phone suggestions to go with the soundcard

Have you tried your onboard sound? I know it sounds yucky, but give it a shot. I'm using my Abit's Realtek ALC888 8 channel (24bit) and I'm impressed with it, especially the price. Much better then my aging sound card that I ditched for lack of Win7 drivers at the time I switched to RC 6 months ago.

my onboard has been ok for gaming with phones and the stereo speakers. But Im planning to get my surrounds hooked back up.

Also, the onboard is no good for recording (ASIO)

That xonar is awesome, I wish I had sound like that in my PC. I'm using a usb sound card lol.
