NOFX March 4, 2004 Share NOFX Member March 4, 2004 yea man www.tomshardware.com go to graphics cards you will find more info there than we can explain to you and yes i would say an upgrade from a 8500 to a 5600 is worth 50 bucks...but it depends on other things also, such as what processor is pushing it. auggybendoggy March 5, 2004 Author Share auggybendoggy Member March 5, 2004 crap! I did and I'm mad. I spent 15 bucks more and got the 5600 ultra 128 ddr 8x but for 15 (30.00 more than 5600) I could have got the 5700 which has a bit more punch. Oh well! live and learn. I did read on em and I don't get the bench marks. I see in UT2003 the fps is like 120-130 somewhere around there but then in comanche 4 its like 40. I'm thinking is this card going to be like my 8500 le that gets 45 fps in CS. CS is probably less demanding than these games so I assume I'll see some improvement. I'll le tyou all know how it goes. [Mmmm]Homer March 5, 2004 Share [Mmmm]Homer Member March 5, 2004 It depends on if you play Commanche. The FPS are all relative, but you should be getting very decent FPS in CS with that card. Now, if you try to run Farcry - well, that's another matter. You get what you pay for!
auggybendoggy March 6, 2004 Author Share auggybendoggy Member March 6, 2004 homer thats about the one thing that is true you get what you pay for. however i have this question. how much of a diff does my cpu make. I have 533 bus 1.6 p4 with 1 gig 2100 ddr is this too weak to handle the doom 3 and h-l 2 coming soon... how much of a diff if I put in a 2.4 or if I go to a 800 mhz bus or should I wait for a 64 bit intel cause the athalon 64 bit is outrageously priced. any advice on upgrading my sys
[Mmmm]Homer March 6, 2004 Share [Mmmm]Homer Member March 6, 2004 As far as scaling I can only relate my upgrade this week. Going from XP2400+ to A64/3000 and keeping my GF4/Ti4600 my 3dmark2001 went from 10,300 to 13,500 which must be just about maxxing out the scaling on my GF4. I'd think you could get more top end with a higher processor, but how much I do not know. I'd wait until these games come out and see how they run. auggybendoggy March 7, 2004 Author Share auggybendoggy Member March 7, 2004 i think a 5600 ultra with a 2.4 will do good. I do video rendering so perhpas i should wait for a 800 mhz bus with a 3.2 cpu. Aug
