  1. I saw an early 00's S4 in Texas for just over 20,000 a couple months back. If I had the money, I would have bought it. It was in tip top shape, and had very low miles. Bushmaster: Check out the TDIs, I think you'll be suprised. It's not as peppy as the 1.8T, but it's not bad at all for ~50mpg. Don't go looking for a manual Golf TDI, it's impossible to find. My friend had to get his from a NY dealership DXed to Maryland.
  2. Audi all the way. People claim they're more expensive to fix, unreliable and all that crap, but find a decent VW/Audi dealership with a used A4 and you're set. If you request it, VW/Audi will certify the A4 for 3 year bumper-to-bumper coverage. WRX just doesn't do it for me. Not that it's a bad car, but I prefer the VW/Audi 4motion/quattro over Subaru's AWD any day of the week. Also, the A4 has slicker interior. Above people: Subaru's quality is no where near par with Toyota, and I'm insulted you said it. You will not see a Subaru do 1 million miles. You just won't. I've personally seen two mid-80's Toyota pickups with over a million on the stock motor. And I don't see how buying an Audi is the popular thing to do, I see more ricer WRXs than A4s. The Subarus sell very well, but guess what, so do Scions. Explain that one to me. The S4 is much nicer than the STI. It's a freaking twin turbo V6. (The older ones, that is. I think the '05 is a V8) If I were going to spend that much money on an AWD car, I'd get the R32 and pop a turbo on, but I'm a hatchback fanboy. Oh yeah, check out the Passat too. Someone above said look at the 500, but that car is 100% Passat. And it doesn't come in a diesel. If you got a Passat TDI, you would be a wise man. Especially with gas prices headed where they are.
  3. That router is hot. It would be nice to have a router with gigabit LAN, but I already got my D-Link gigabit switch, so oh well. Currently, I'm running a SURFboard 4200 into a DI-604, to a DGS-1008D, and then I have a DWL-2100AP connected to that. I'm a D-Link fanboy.
  4. Mixing high density and low density chips can cause system instability, according to the books. Now personally, it's always worked fine for me, but I seriously doubt if it's going to work in dual-channel mode. You have to have identical sticks.
  5. It's good electrical design. It should be something implemented into a building when it is built or redesigned. I'm not suggesting it's something that should be rented (it can be rented, but would cost entirely too much), I just find it odd they don't have a decent electrical design in a critical situation. If the power goes out, how would they do a checkout? That's all about how they make money. Now granted, they wouldn't need much power to do it, nothing like what would be needed for a 100+ person LAN, but if you say you don't think they have a UPS, I'm shocked. Basically, this is how it works: Main power==1==UPS===Building *pretendthisisempty*| Generator===2===| If line 1 fails, the UPS holds over the power to the building long enough for the generator (line 2) to kick on. The generator then feeds power to the UPS and out to the building. The quality of the generator does matter, but even if it throws out inconsistent power, the UPS will take the hit and the batteries will provide a smooth circuit. The UPS will require constant power from line 1 for one minute (example, it's actually configurable) before it will switch to line 1 and shut off the generator. There's a lot more to it than that, but it's a basic example to inform you. If you want sources besides my experience, I can either throw out my father, a certified electrician, or the county electricians whom I have dealt with about refitting our old jail into a temporary holding prison for feds. How is it appropriate? Power makes the LAN work. The odds are slim that a major fault would occur, but you can never be too safe. I'm trying to help, but if you don't want input, I'll stay out of it. Also, I just found out I have a "retreat" to go to for my department during FF, so I can't make it.
  6. That's true, but it's good design to have a generator to back up a UPS. Once the power gets through the UPS, it should be stable enough for normal use.
  7. If you wish to contact an off-duty officer, you can call any local station and the clerks (depending on how big the area is, they may be 24/7) will post a bulletin for the request. Down here, the FOP has a set rate of no less than $25/hr. It sounds like you have it covered. I'm not overly worried about it, I just wanted to make sure you had thought about it. For the video thing, if no one thinks it's a good idea, I guess I won't do it. I just thought maybe it would make for a good preview for the 2006.
  8. Well, I guess it's time to ITX that mini-fridge of mine then.
  9. I was thinking along the lines of my old 1.5 (no steam, yay) dir with 400+ maps and various Ludwig Van plugins. Most of the maps work on 1.6 as well. All my other shares would be disabled. All of my music is legally ripped from CDs I personally own, and as you know, those are illegal to give out. Playing them is another story though. The only music I would possibly share if it's okay with you would be live U2 shows, because they have openly condoned sharing mp3s of their live shows, and I have a few. I have a couple other questions for you guys, actually. If I were to get my hands on some equipment from my brother's work, would you want me to take some HI-8 video of the event? That was one of my reasons for wanting to bring the server, but I can also do this on one of my workstations. Of course, if you want me to do this, I will need to pay for two seats in a corner somewhere. I don't want anyone tripping over things that aren't mine. If you don't want me to bring my server, that's cool. Strapping in two watercooled PCs will be enough hassle. I can still handle the video on one of my PCs. How are these rooms going to be secured if/when no one is there? I don't want my stuff to walk away, and I really don't want to take down two stations when I want to take a nap with my lady friend. Bubblegum, I know what you mean about the cost to get there (28 gallon tank and avg of 13mpg), but about 20% of my direct deposit is going towards my truck payment, 50% is going to a possible down payment, and the insurance on my truck snuck up on me. I'm 19, it's a >$30,000 truck and I'm paying in 6 month spans. It's in no way cheap. I have to squeeze what I can right now. Fatty, come next month, you'll have your money, and I'll have a seat or two.
  10. I looked, and looked, and looked, and I can't find whether this will be gigabit based. Also, what are we looking at for power? Do we need our own strips? I'm assuming the hotel has a UPS/Generator if the power does go out. What are you going to give out prizes for? Tournaments? Most kills? Best hair? Are there going to be strict rules on transferring files/programs/whatever over the network? Especially during peak times? I have a small (yeah, right) file server that I'd like to donate to the cause of FF. Even if that means only GC members get to use it. Yes, I'm anal about things, but I guess I should wait for a director to step up before all the questions can be answered, eh? Hm.. what exactly does this director position require? Does it require me to live in Ohio? Because I'm pretty far away. And yes, I haven't signed up yet, but I will. I'm just waiting to hear on news about a house before I go spending money willy nilly.
  11. Isn't it like a 5 second pause time? I can buy everything with the keyboard in about 2-3 seconds, and explain the plan while I'm doing it.
  12. I bought this from a guy on a very popular forum a while back and he gave me some great stuff to work with. If I show up, can I enter it? (Yes, I will have done some extra mods myself by then) If you want more pictures, let me know. Edit: Also, would a Mac Mini in my Titan be okay to enter? Or do I have to be able to bring it inside? I guess Holiday Inn wouldn't like me ramming through their walls D:
  13. Well, I'm dropping my 1.6 clan/guild/thing now, so I can pick up another forum. I can't do more than 2 at a time or I'll lose my mind. Plus I don't have to host a 1.6 server anymore, because really, 384k up isn't that good. Oh yeah, M2, you're my favorite target in the pistol rounds now. That's the only round I can really do well in until I figure out my best playing methods in CS:S.
