  1. post codes? you referring to beeps, pwr light indicators, or on-screen displays? if it's on-screen display, that's the time to hit delete key. brillow is right, hope the cpu doesn't get toasted by the board. i had faulty transistors on an old abit that blew cost me two amd's (first time shame on you, second time shame on me, eh?) mine was an easy catch, once i thought about it. a quick visual inspection of the motherboard (completely gutted out of the case) revealed three areas of black "goo" that turned out to be melted silicon. yikes! you may want to add a new mobo to your wishlist. strangefamous has turned a few people onto ecs (budget) boards. they've all had good luck. if you like the nvidia chipset you're using now, here's one for $43bucks. otherwise, here's the list of ecs socket-a compatible motherboards.
  2. i don't know _anything_ about case mods, lights, etc. i'm an oldskooler holding true to my oversized file server tower. if i were troubleshooting the machine, i'd disconnect any non essential devices to isolate the problem. you can then piece the puzzle back together ONE AT A TIME to pinpoint it. like i said before, i'd recommend setting bios settings back to factory default. i'm not sure how you're clearing cmos (removing battery, jumpering, etc.), but to reset the bios, hit "del" at boot time, then from the main screen choose "load fail-safe defaults." adjust the settings you undrestand (only), and leave things like multipliers, frequency, and clock rate alone. if the black is on the bottom of your processor (at the socket, not where the heatsink contacts), that's a bad, bad sign. ftp://ftp-usa.abit.com.tw/pub/download/ma...english/an7.pdf
  3. you should have at least a 400w psu... i'm looking at the manual now, will edit/repost asap.
  4. that sounds like a perfect reason to "load bios defaults." sounds like there was some overclocking gone bad. if you post your EXACT MOBO MODEL i'll be glad to look up the manual and give you more specific instructions. if you do not know the model, open the case (powered off, of course) and look for a silkscreen MFG-MDL# (like xxx-xxxx) between the pci slots.
  5. west coast love for strangefamous and bubblegum bandit. strange, thanks for pulling part of your attention from ROSE to setup stats for us. bub, thanks for making it all look super sweet. start fragging, we're counting now. check em here.
  6. building your own machine from oem/retail parts is the way to go, IMHO.
  7. unless it's a custom map on cs, no. i didn't know other games were available for my counter-strike computer.
  8. doom + beam = entertainment. sorry to hear about your unfortunate luck, though. you heard the man, wait it out.
  9. need a ban? we need proof supporting the allegation; screenshots work fine, or include time, date, and name of offender. this is a ban request thread only. requests not relating to this topic will be deleted. you can reach me on aim, too - 'j0hn gc' if you are looking to discuss the lift of a ban, please go here.
  10. connect to cs chicago and cs west. your better ping decides the region you belong to

  14. shodan, the bane of all humor.
  15. things ran great sunday night for the debut of gc san jose. thanks again to everyone who put in the work to get this off the ground. pings were great for a lot of pubbers coming from the west coast. even better, very few jerks decided to stop by, and good gameplay was had. players are going to get directed to the website and forums soon, so say hi to new faces and new faces say hi to the rest of us... now to find a job that doesn't start in the a.m.
  16. no, really, white people can dance (and sing). *proof*
  17. sorry, i was in right field when i read this the first time. dvdshrink is the wrong tool for the job. this isn't my department, but try http://www.doom9.org/guides.htm. hope that helps.
  18. are you trying to make these playable on a dvd player, or on any pc? i use dvd shrink regularly for making backups of my dvd movies, which i can then watch on a standalone or boxtop dvd player. you can find free it at http://www.dvdshrink.org. pm or aim me if you have any questions on how to use it.
  19. i wish i had been on time. i had a great time on the few (last) maps i did play. i'd love to see a chronological list to remind me what the heck i played and comment on the good, the bad, and the ugly. lot-o-fun, thanks for putting this together.
  20. "May the sun never set on the GC empire!" here's to looking forward (and having fun doing it).
