Errr, I've been banning like a fiend on Recrude. Done at least a dozen or so in the past 24hrs. I spam a warning from Console as soon as I join--something along the lines of Do Not curse, I will ban, no warnings. etc etc. Initially, I agreed with you folks advocating warning people first, but the reality is that then the admins have to sit there and debate with people, or they leave and rejoin before you can ban them and AFTER spamming FU for several seconds. It ruins the fun for everyone and it definately means that admins end up typing more than playing. Ban first, take the hardline, everyone will respect that or leave. Fatty has it right as well, there are PLENTY of more ppl out there.

Changing other stuff isn't really worth it yet. Fatty - I noticed that when I connect to the server, it's not listed as a Dedicated server? Can you check with XGS about this?

I spam a warning in Console when I join the server about clean language. Everything else I warn about. And some folks that have been good and slip, I'll warn before I ban. I am DEFINATELY a ban nazi.

Heh. Cute. Wingnut will just have to stay away until this problem goes away. No two ways around that. There's little to nothing you can do about DDOS attacks without some serious financial, legal and political resources to bring to bear. We get packetted at GotFrag about 1 or twice a month. Most of the time, no one notices--once in a while it "shuts down" the site for about 4-5 hours. Eventually, the attacks die off. Who is this guy? Probably someone that Wingnut owned, upset or otherwise offended (undoubtedly through NO fault of his own). MyGOT and their kind are well known for jumping to offense at the slightest reason and going to town on people. If Wingnut is wearing the DunceCap for the month, he's going to have to just wear it. Lunk- all he needs is an IP. The DDOS attacks come from machines that this person has hijacked. So you can't ban his IP. The issue needs to be resolved at the source, or at the GSP level (ie Xgaming needs to block all the packeting IPs at the perimeter of their network). Final piece of advice--strongly urge that we take a very low profile on this. Attracting attention just means that we get made a target. I'm a firm believer in the Black Hole philosophy of internet security. Let it vanish into a blackhole, make no public comment about it and eventually these kids go away--what they crave is recognition. Give them that in any form, and they're going to keep coming back.

urk. sorry fatty. Didn't see your original post. Just saw the... errr... flaming. Serious answer to your question: Make it something personal. Us lil ppl rarely get a moment with the pres. If you get one line to get his attention, take it to say something to him that will mean something to you--personally, politically and otherwise. His handlers probably won't let you get into a conversation with him, but make it a well-considered, rational statement (words mind you, nothing else ;p -- ala pie on bill gates = nono.).

Ask him to spell "Potato" and then nod your head sagaciously when he fubs it, saying "Interesting, history does repeat itself"

How about we put CS: Source beta on Ante? I think it's an open DL for the server DL. Maps are also readily available. I've noticed that alot of ppl have been playing that more and more, shifting from 1.6. Might be worthwhile to toss one up now so that the Community has a place to play it.

Don't kill it. Don't rush it either. We've alot on the horizon. I think we can all be a little patient and find a use for this server. Certainly, it's a great place for us to "try" games out.

Thanks all. Bub and I have been working on it. The design is mine, bub rolled it out on the code. What size is your desktop? The new menu navigation will be done in a week or so (busy with other work atm, so haven't had time to follow up on it). Font size will be slightly larger then.

I'm good with doing a map voting cycle for all times, so long as the maps that are votable at each time cycle are different (ie primetime doing a DAD rotation, daytime fun maps, late night other maps, etc).
