The first game I backed up was Halo, and I can play that fine on XBConnect without the disc. If you host games it isn't laggy at all, but if you join you just have to join thw lowest ping game you can find or it could be horrendous lag.

This site appears to be down right now... but rest assured DOH is still around. DOH/DLM has a bunch of servers from CS to CoD (recently the new Revolt mod) among others that I don't even know about. The GC home page shows who is in our teamspeak server as well.

I had XBox Live and didn't even like it anyway. You can play on Gamespy/XBConnect just fine with a modded box though.

You're right, it does require a lot of researching, but I don't think you'd screw up your XBox. If you're comfortable working inside your computer I think you'd do fine. You just need those dang Torx 10 and 20 screwdrivers to get everything out of the box! I think you're right.
