Sorry to hear that buddy. If it's any consolation, my bro got let go from Blackberry (formerly known as RIM). He was frontline IT and did mostly desktop support (responding to tickets and what not). The company, in its infinite wisdom decided to outsource all the frontend IT (70 or so jobs) to a call center in Europe even though cost analysis showed it made no sense financially. They were notified 3 weeks before launch that their last day would be Feb 12. The kick was they were expected to help train their replacements as soon as possible. You can imagine how co-operative they must have been! Last week he was talking with a friend who was still working there. She mentioned that IT is a mess now and they've had to create a mailbox just for the complaints people have for the IT dept! Never mind the actually problems people are having with their machines! Upper management doesn't understand IT at all.

I am reviving this for a specific reason. I think it was Unclean that emailed me a great format for a resume and I cannot seem to find that email now. I think the format was a list of successes or something (I cannot think of the frakin word!) and then a brief description of skills, etc. I think that was the format and I think it was Unclean that emailed me this but I cannot recall. Things are not looking to hot at my new job. Company is bleeding people regularly and the new CEO is an amateur at best and has no understanding or appreciation for IT and the job we do. I want to start preparing for what I believe is coming in the next few months.

As nice as the Titan is as a high end performer, I personally wouldn't spend $1000 on a video card. Unless you plan on going 3 monitors with Nivida's Surround (AMD has Eyefinity) then that is probably a waste. I have the single 24-inch monitors which runs at 1920 x 1080. I use an EVGA GTX 670. When I played Dead Space 3 at max settings a couple of weeks ago, I ran GPU-Z and watched the load on the GPU (not cpu). I averaged around 30-35% utilization most of the time with a couple of spikes up to 50%. The current gen Nvidia cards are beasts and can handle most everything thrown at them. Anything more without going the multiple monitor route would be a waste of money.

I doubt the PS4 will take years like it did for the PS3 for developers to understand and develop for. The hardware of the PS4 is pretty much identical to a PC with regards to CPU and what not. The difference is the firmware or OS running on the PS4. Developers will not have to wade through layers of Windows and Mac bloat to get to the underlying hardware so we should see much better use of the available resources. Developers also do not have to factor in all of the different hardware in PCs because everything in the PS4 will be identical; they can max it out without fear of last year's hardware not being able to hand it. Sony probably made a good decision here but only time will tell.

Well AMD"s APU's are not that impressive so I am not sure why they are going this route. I am glad they are using AMD hardware because it is cheaper than Intel and keeps AMD in business but to me it limits the capabilities of the system. Yeah, its cost effective but they are basically releasing a new console with 2 year old video technology. I do suppose though that we will see better ports from console to PC and vise versa and the 8GB of GDDR5 is interesting. That is super fast video card RAM but as system and video RAM and 8GB of it.

As a super geek for tech specs and the like, I am waiting to find out what kind of CPU and GPU this thing is running. I may sell my PS3 after I play through "The Last of Us" in a few months.

If you read the books, then last season ended half way through book 2. God only knows when George will write book 6. It only took him years to write book 5 and HBO needs this series to go on for a while.

Has anyone contributed to the Space Star Citizen project? It is an ongoing crowd funding project by the creators of X-Wing and other games. There is more information at the website of course. It is using a combination of game types to create a space sim with RPG and action elements. It is using the Cryengine too so it should be pretty. The expected release date is the end of 2014 but those that contribute now get a guaranteed ship and play time in the alpha and betas. Read up on the ships and "tech" behind them. They are not zombies in the traditional sense. The term is used to give a feeling of part survival horror game. These are creatures created by a virus and my guess is that the cause will be revealed as the game progresses.
