  1. I just built my first pc over 4th of July weekend. It cost me around $550 to do it. This is what I put in it: Biostar M7NCD Pro Mobo AMD/Athlon XP 2500+ Barton 1ghz PNY PC2700 Memory(2 sticks of 256mb & 1 512mb) Asus CD-Rom Power-Case(Picked it up at pc show for $35 with 400 watt ps) TI4200 64mb vid card Floppy drive XP keyboard Mouse WD 80gb hdd w/8mb cache It's not hard to build one. The hardest thing for me was deciding which mobo to go with. It's mind boggling when you start looking at all the different ones. Homer gave me the idea to go with the biostar mobo. And so far I don't regret it. I would recommend this board to all. And I've noticed a big difference in cs with this new pc versus my Dell P4 1.4ghz w/256mb RDRAM and 32 mb vid card. With the new one I'm always the first one on during a map change. For me it's becoming a hobby. I like to tinker with the pc. And I'm fixin' to upgrade my old P3 450mhz pc now. Change mobo & cpu with new memory. Like DJ said it's all about priorities.
  2. I just finished building my new pc. Here is the Mobo & CPU I used: Mobo- Biostar M7NCD Pro CPU- AMD/Athlon XP 2500+ Barton By the way this mobo has 400 fsb and the new nvidia chipset. It's been up and running for a week and a half now with no issues. And right now newegg has it for $85 with $15 mail in rebate. So, I'm fixin' to buy another one of these to upgrade my old p3 450 mhz pc. Gonna swap out the guts and go AMD on it.

Here let me reel ya'll back in. LUNK OWNS ALL
  4. Wanted to see if ya'll knew of any good antivirus programs, other than Norton & McAffee, out there. That are worth installing. Let me know.
  5. Thanks Homer. I do have my 80gb hd partitioned into 2 drives. I've also got the Norton Ghost program you talked about. (Came with my Biostar Mobo). So, I'll give it a try.
  6. Ok I've now realized that the article I looked at on Microsoft's site is for XP Prof. I have XP Home version. So if someone can teach me how to do backups using XP Home. I'd appreciate it.
  7. I'm trying to backup the data on all my pc's. I went to Microsoft's website and found their instructions. It says to do the following: Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Backup. The Backup or Restore Wizard starts. Click Advanced Mode. Click the Backup tab. On the Job menu, click New. Select the check boxes for the drives that you want to back up. If you want to be more specific in your selections, expand the drive that you want, and then click the check boxes for the files or folders that you want. Select the System State check box. NOTE: If you want to back up your system settings as well as your data files, you should back up all the data on your computer plus the System State data, which includes such things as the registry, the COM+ class registration database, files under Windows File Protection, and boot files. In the Backup destination list, click the backup destination that you want to use. If you clicked File in the previous step, type the full path and file name that you want in the Backup media or file name box. Note that you can also specify a network share as a destination for the backup file. Click Start Backup. The Backup Job Information dialog box appears. Under If the media already contains backups, use one of the following steps: If you want to append this backup to previous backups, click Append this backup to the media. If you want to overwrite previous backups with this backup, click Replace the data on the media with this backup. Click Advanced. Select the Verify data after backup check box. In the Backup Type box, click the type of backup that you want. When you click a backup type, a description of that backup type is displayed under "Description." Click OK, and then click Start Backup. A Backup Progress dialog box appears, and the backup starts. When the backup is complete, click Close. So here's my problem. When I click on the system tools. I see no program called BACKUP. Someone help me out here. I'm a nub on this issue. Never had any reason to back up my whole pc.
  8. Ok cya. Not sure who you are. I mean was.
  9. Thanks ZD & White. I've already done most of those tweaks. I've got my system down below the 60mb mark for what it's using. It runs pretty good the way it is. Just wanted to try to up the cpu speed that's all.
  10. Im runnin' XP. What I want to boost is the cpu(overclock) some.
  11. Ok, I just finished building my new pc today. And I wanted a few tips to help boost performance on it. I want to boost it up from 1.83ghz. Here's what I got. AMD/XP 2500+ Barton Biostar M7NCD Mobo TI4200 64mb vid card. Please, no suggestions on any new hardware. I'm just looking for some tweaks I can do to boost my machine. Thanks.

    Strange

Have you tried restarting your pc? Could be an issue where 1 of those programs had an error and now it's affecting all of them. And may just need a restart.

It's all good White Knight. Like I said, I don't have a problem with you. I just wanted to find out why you felt the way you did about the admins. We all have our bad days. You pointed out some very legitimate concerns. And rest assured, we are working to correct these issues.(Man now I sound like a politician ) Let me go ahead and Apologize to All for the whole "Drug Policy" deal. We didn't do a good job of rolling that one out. We implemented that without letting people know and it got carried away. And for that, We are sorry. Thank you White Knight for responding with your concerns. PS. To All, Take note of White Knights response. Non-hostile but yet he conveyed his message quite clearly.
  15. The above is how I normally handle regulars when they slip up. Now if it's someone new they'll get a tsay. I get tired of being an donkey burrow all the time. Goes against my nature. Because I'm one of the most laid back guys you'll ever meet.
  16. Ban'em Ban'em All Just Kiddin'. Seriously all we are working on this. It's a fine line between responsible adminning and letting the place turn into mad house. We do ask that any criticism be put forth in a constructive manner. Please do not just throw flaming comments out there. Thank you as always from your most beloved Admin

Hey White Knight, I wanted to follow up, with you, on your comment last night on Trop. You know the one where you said "you don't like the admins here". Just curious as to what exactly you don't like? Yes we do get a little over zealous sometimes. But all in all I believe we are pretty fair to people. No, I'm not mad just wanted to have a rational talk about this outside of the game. Let me know. PS. This is an open discussion between White Knight and myself. Please do not come in here flamin' folks while we have this discussion. If people don't have anything constructive to say. I would appreciate them not posting up on this. Thank you
  18. Was just gonna say. "It's probably just because you bent the rim" But, you already found that out.
  19. On second thought. I know why you came back. You forgot some of your marbles. They're over there in the corner. Go ahead and pick'em up and go home. Thanks.
  20. Glad you picked up on this Hoff. We were wondering why GD12 never has anyone on it. Must be where you're hangin' out
  21. Actually, I went with the Biostar M7NCD that Homer talked about. I also got Athlon/XP 2500+ Barton Processor to go with it. I still have a few more things to get before I start assembly on this. May order remaining parts today or tomorrow.
  22. I see 3 Oscars & 1 Jack Dempsey. Not sure about the other 2 fish I see in there
  23. I was at Best Buy yesterday and saw one of these machines listed for $4800. Blew my mind.
