  1. Last LAN I went to the host got "Smoking" rooms (previous LANs were non-smoking rooms) and the fire alarm actually got set off...good thing there weren't sprinklers.

Well, svchost.exe actually does a lot of things. As the name implies, it is a "host" of sorts for different services. As we speak, I currently have 5 svchosts.exe running in my Task Manager.

Hmm, I thought that message was sent by the Messenger service...must not be. I don't get those messages and I have it disabled. I do get a little systray icon telling me disk-space is low though.
  4. Maybe he wanted the AK member status icon?

Moss, when I said ALL messages, I meant all "Net Send" type messages. The system uses the Messenger Service (not to be cofused with Windows/Microsoft Messenger) for informational popups such as Print Notifications, Low Virtual Memory warnings, Low Disk-space warnings, etc. All of these types of messages will stop when you disable the Messenger service.
  6. RedMagic...trust me, go with the manual transmission. Ton's better than any automatic. Your sister can learn quick enough if she really needs the car.
  7. Hehe, nah, I have rescinded (sp?) my "witch" hunt Rooster.
  8. Ok, isn't this the second time you have tried to trick people into joining your "Outwar army"? I find this extremely lame.
  9. Erik Estrada (Ponch from CHiPs)
  10. Rooster, just a heads up but this Hoogz "kid" is probably around my age...at least yours.
  11. I am in the beta. Can't say anything cuz of the NDA but I just got in and haven't had a chance to play yet.
  12. I didn't know if the actual link would be appropriate for this MB.

Another way to block the Net Send messages (the gray "system-type" pop up messages) would be to block ports 135, 137-139 on your firewall/router. Disabling the Messenger service prevents ALL messages, even the systems ones (such as "Disk almost full" messages and such) while blocking the ports on the router prevent any such messages from outside your network. One catch though, blocking these ports also effectively blocks "Windows" sharing and Network Neighborhood outside your network too.
  14. All the cool kids pee their pants
  15. You can get those at Wal-mart too.
  16. 2500 at 1.83? It should be faster than that.
  17. Yes, but pride is a big issue with a lot of people and you often get better results by calmly going to a person out of the public eye. It comes down to your motive, are you trying to call him out or are you really trying to help resolve an issue.
  18. I use HLSW as well and in the times I have tried to connect to tropolis, only occassionally do I get the "Waiting to connect" box. The majority of the time it starts up CS then gives me a "Dropped due to slot reservation" message. Also, for tropolis, HLSW doesn't seem to always display the reserved slots properly, which I have assued was the problem.
  19. DOH!! I accidentally posted the real speed of my CPU instead of the AMD rating...2100+ (1.73GHz).
  20. Catchy songs (Swoop, get on AIM)
  21. (poopie, busted again by someone posting quicker) intestines
  22. Chuckles, that one is the outwar one.
  23. I use IRC a lot and am one of those "idlers". I don't idle in a lot, just the different clans from my old server, mostly because it is a quick way to get a hold of them if I need to for different things (info about a LAN, scrimming, just chatting, etc). I am not big on having others "idle" in our channel cuz we mostly just use it for pre- and post-scrim/match/practice run-throughs.
