  1. Am I missing something? I looked at my stats on the stats website and my hitbox information does not seem to be updating. Is there something I have to do on this end to get it working? Thanks! Cranky
  2. That guy is definitely immature. The use of language and abuse to make one's point or hold someone else up to ridicule is the last resort of the defeated intellect. With that in mind.... he's bankrupt! Cranky
  3. That's ok SF - I received a binary watch from my wife for Xmas. It's cool. Reads out with LEDs in binary - people ask "what time is it?" - I show them the watch (no clue). So, I'm geeky and proud of it. There's worse things.... Cranky
  4. Really happy to hear that Danielle is doing some better Duke - and able to come home - that's just great. I'll keep the prayers going and hope for even better things for her. Thank you for the thoughts too. Yes, it's hard to accept sometimes when you see good people suffer and yet I trust God to give us no more than we can bare as the Bible says. I'm sure it will work out for the good in all this. Thanks for the prayers - that's what I solicit most. The Bible says "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much" James 5:16 and I firmly believe in that. Hope things continue to go well with your little one. Cranky
  5. Hi Duke, Thanks for asking. I'm afraid we (my family ) are also having one of those events in life that test our metal and determine the stuff of which we are made. I would not wish to distract from your little daughter's needs for prayers but if folks want to offer up some extras, I have never been one to turn them down. We all need God's help to get through this life - that's for sure. Here's some people in my family that could use your prayers as well. My father-in-law Don, Sr, has been diagnosed with asbestosis. He can hardly breathe - has a diaphragm under one lung that is not working and probably has a limited time to live. They are also trying to determine if perhaps he has mesothelioma - cancer of the mesothelium - the sacks that surround the heart, lungs and abdominal organs - in this case, his lungs. He goes to Duke University sometime soon to see if they can surgically help his diaphragm to give him a slight improvement in quality of life. His adult son Rob has CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy). It's a longer term and more severe version of Guillain-Barre syndrome. It occurs when the myelin surrounding your fast conducting nerve bundles begins to errode; usually due to your immune system attacking it. It manifests in paralysis, extreme pain, fatigue, tremors and loss of sensation in the extremeties. He has had it now for about 4 years but it is escalating again. He is also on disability. Rob's daughter Jessie (age 17), has a congenital defect that was only in the last couple of weeks diagnosed in which her brain is swelling into the soft tissue space behind the back of the skull - the spinal cord area. This will have to be dealt with surgically a week from today by a neurosurgeon. We will be praying for her that this delicate surgery can go well and not leave her with problems afterwards but there are no guarantees from the doctors. I'm sure they will do their best. Don Sr's other adult son Don Jr (worked where I worked) was furloughed from the company a couple of weeks ago - unceremoniously after 18+ years of dedicated service. He has a severe back problem so this affects his income, life insurance and his medical situation very negatively ( it is very difficult to get a job, life insurance or medical coverage when you have a severe chronic illness ). In addition, he is having some other health issues that need prayer greatly. So, I appreciate prayers in my family's behalf as well. These are really very good Christian people - loving, caring and dedicated to the Lord all their lives - and they have a lot to bare right now. Duke, I'm keeping your little daughter in every prayer I utter - as frequently as I can. Only God knows the grand plan and scheme of things and sometimes these things are so very hard for us to understand or even accept but we all hold to the knowledge that the joy that is ours in Him and the peace we can have now and the peace we will have beyond this plane of existance can make every day here something for which we can be truly thankful. May God bless you Duke and your family in this tough time for you. Cranky
  6. Very cool indeed - another fun element to our servers. Great job! Also, wanna see something funny? 7. One of my first jobs was working as a real-time computer programmer for a chemical plant process control system. As such, I was unfortunately on call during nights and weekends. The real downer was that I had to drive 38 miles ONE-WAY to get to the plant and then 38 back home later. This one night, this instrument tech calls me and complains that one of his computer controlled production unit devices is not functioning properly. So, I went through the instructions over the phone about 17 times explaining to him this very simple command. I literally said...... "Just type in ctrl-0-103 cmd-up 80 and then enter" Keep in mind this is a guy with some 7-10 years of experience in this specific production unit. He works with the process control computer every day - all through his shift. Well, each time he tries it, he tells me that the computer comes back and says "invalid syntax". Note also, this is at 2:30 AM. So, I finally realize that something's up with the computer and so I trudge into work half asleep - 38 miles!. When I look at the I/O typer (yes we had hard copy typing devices to keep records of all commands - safety puddin - safety)...What do you think I see? Typed in about 17 times I see the following: "ctrl-0-103 cmd-up 80 ENTER" Yes, that's right! He spelled out the word "ENTER" instead of just hitting the ENTER key - same key he's been banging on for the last few years! I typed in the command and drove home... not happy... even... dare I say it... Cranky!
  8. I'm praying for your sweet little daughter Duke and you and the rest of your family too. Our family too is going through some really tough times but I know we'll get through because of our mutual faith in God. I know you will too - whatever comes. I'll keep praying for you all - Cranky
  9. Pretty funny spots there Pagan and Laz - and yes, I think a guy who could get there quickly could do some pretty serious ownage! Nice job. It's always amazing to me the clever spots people can find that seem almost inaccessible - even in existing map that have been played to exhaustion - and yet those spots are there if you just put the time and energy into it. Great job! Hope I don't get headshot by somebody up there sometime! Cranky
  10. You may be correct Duma. Course, I live in a very large metropolitan area and I frequent literally dozens of ATMs and on no occassions have I ever once heard an ATM talk or encountered a blind person using one. Guess it's possible but I've just never run across it. I still think having such a thing in a drive-through lane is pretty odd and funny but perhaps that's just me. Again, no intent to make fun of anyone specifically with a handicap was intended - I just think the location of such a device is pretty odd. Best regards - Cranky
  11. Something to keep in mind for the future.... When you visit in someone's home, you're a guest. When you visit on our servers, you're a guest. As a guest, you should put your best foot forward to be courteous to others, considerate of the server rules and willing to play as a "team" player. In your post, you used the word "I" about 9 times including . That seems to be the entire source of the problem. You are focused on what you want and not what the community wants. On the other hand, Mag is focused upon the needs of the community and is following the .GC rules for managing the server and the environment in which we all enjoy playing. Trust me, if I saw you using that name while in game, I'd tell you to change it too and after some appropriate period of time, if you failed to comply, I'd kick you out too for a bad attitude. So, I hope you'll come to understand that you are a guest here and should behave as one - politely. Attempts to debate how someone should manage their household while you are a guest in it - will only result in someone showing you the door. Cooperate, enjoy the environment and be a welcome addition to the team - or, at your choice, be gone. Hopefully you'll choose the former and not the latter. Cranky
  12. Brad Paisley song begins to play..... "I'm...... gonna miss her......".......
  13. Ok, I'll grant Duma that "perhaps" the reason a drive-up ATM machine has Braille on it is because of economies of scale - put it on all of them to make it more cost effective. But it still begs the question - what is a blind person supposed to do with Braille on the buttons next to the video screen? Think about it. Ok, I'll try another one.... years ago, my father-in-law opened a bank account in (ok - I won't say it - but it's a country immediately to the north of us). Anyway, he gets his new shiny ATM card from the nice bank officer and he is told to go to the ATM machine in the center of the lobby, insert the card and program it with his desired password for the very first time. Well, he goes to the machine, enters his cool password and then heads out of the bank. Later in the day, he stops by an ATM to draw out some cash for lunch. He puts his card in, starts to enter his password... hmm... when he was in the bank and entered his password, he picked a couple of special symbols for the password (something like &*%$ or similar - no, I'm not cussing). Well then, surprise, surprise.. the "field model" of the ATM has no such characters on it! Back to the bank..... The agent is surprised but resets his password and tells him to go the ATM in the center of the bank and enter a new password. So, Dad goes to the machine and this time, remembering the keycodes available on the "field" machine, enters a new password. Life is good. He still used a special character in it (like an "&") but hey, it's on the field machine so it must be ok... right? A couple of days later, he spins by the ATM near his house - puts in his card and password and proceeds to ask for money - only part way through the asking, the machine shuts down and spits out his card. A message appears "we are experiencing problems with this ATM. Please try another location. Sorry for any inconvenience.". Irritated but being a very patient fellow, Dad heads over to a different machine, pokes his lucky card into the machine, enters his password and a few seconds later, same problem. Ugh! Well, it's too late in the day to go visit the bank agent so he waits til the next day. Next day, off he goes to the bank and explains the problem to the agent. A suspicious look arises on the agent's face. "What time exactly did you use your card sir?" he asks. Dad answers. Then exclaims the agent, "Ah ha - we had system problems at exactly that same time! - would you mind trying your card over here on the ATM in the center of the lobby?". Dad complies. He sticks his card in the lobby ATM, pokes in his password.... .BOOM.... down it goes! The agent about has a heart attack. A few minutes later, the "computer tech" runs out of the back room into the lobby - "what just happened?". The agent explains. Dad explains. Computer tech cusses - says "the entire ATM network keeps dropping off line when you do that - could you PLEEEEEASE pick a different password and DON'T use any of the special keys please!"..... True story.... (sad but true?)..... Of course this was during the early days of ATMs in (the country to the north)... but hey, it's still pretty funny..... Cranky
  14. It's not really a story but something I've puzzled about for some time. Near my house is a drive-up ATM. It's solely for cars - you know, drive up? Well apparently the bank people don't know that. I say that because while I'm sitting there using the machine and waiting on my cash, I happen to notice- this machine has Braille on it!!!!!!! Yep! Right there on the numeric keypad - Braille! So, then the question: "who do they think is going to use this that needs Braille"? The possibilities are pretty funny (without intention to poke fun at anyone with a sight problem). I can just see this blind person driving up to the ATM to use it (scary thought huh?)! How does he find his way to the ATM without knocking it over with his car? Does he have two white poles attached to the front of his car so he can "feel" for the machine? Also, what about the row of buttons at the top beside the video screen; you know, the buttons that you use to select the account you wish to access, the amount you wish to withdraw/deposit, etc? They have NO Braille on them! So, it was obviously a partial solution but you have to wonder about the bank employee who said - "hey, let's be sure to put braille on the machine so blind people can use it in the drive-up lane". (were the other meeting attendants asleep?) "Here's your sign....." Keep smiling! Cranky
  15. I've dealt with some of those types of programs on my own and involving my friends' computers on MANY occassions. I'd include in the list of offenders, those who write viruses, spyware, and hijack-ware. For them, the punishment would be simple - I would sentence them to the same fate I suffered; cleaning up a totally messed up machine for hours. It takes many hours, is laborious, requires the assemblage of the most amazing array of unique tools and many hours of "try this" no "try that" to eradicate a undesireable element from the system. After they failed to properly remove it (but spent many hours trying), I'd make them backup, wipe, rebuild and reinstall all the user's data, applications and customized settings. You see, the punishment should fit the crime and there is no greater punishment than having to do the same things that the poor victim of such malignant mal-ware is forced to face. Why let them off so lightly as with physical abuse or death. I say let's make them suffer the same fate we endure; spending hours rebuilding a system and of course, at the end of it all - we'll punish them further by reinstalling yet another mal-ware in the system as they smile with satisfaction at their "clean" system! Just a thought! Cranky
  16. Don't worry about that too much Mooney. We know you're a good guy. I've seen you online and played with you many times and never heard you say a word like that. We've had several regular players in the past who loaned their computer (monentarily usually) to a cousin, friend, brother, etc. and they, not knowing the rules for the server, let one slip. Of course it's always weird to see someone we know who upholds the climate we want say something like that so it usually turns out funny rather than a real concern. The only work-around for that is to make sure they change the player name before they start but that can be a pain but at least we would know it wasn't you! ;o) - but then, of course it's still your steam ID that's in jeopardy if somebody bans it. I appreciate the fact that you expressed your concern in here. Again, it shows your a good guy. Don't sweat it - stuff happens. I would have given you an immediate vote for an unban if you told me that !!!! ;o) See ya on the servers dude! Cranky Bullfrog
  17. I'm an Electrical Engineer since 1975. I am a registered EIT in the state of Tennessee and have given thought (off and on) to becoming a PE here but in 30 years of working, I've never really needed it. I think it's a great thing to do for yourself or in the circumstances where your work affects the public directly and therefore it is legally required (I believe). However, as I mentioned, it's never really been necessary in all the years I have carried out Industrial Process Control, Diestel Engine Test Cell Control Systems and now Telecommunications. Still.... I might take the PE some day just to do it for myself. Cranky
  18. Cool post thread and I am really enjoying reading about your names and where you got them. Ok, so "Cranky Bullfrog" - what's up with that? (probably what you're thinking - right?) Well, about three years ago when I was a spritely 49 years old (I'm nearly 52 now), my son NyxErinyes introduced me to Counter Strike. I was strictly a Myst/adventure playing kind of guy up to that point with a little Doom and Unreal angst vented here and there as time and mood allowed. Well, my first reaction to CS was.... Yep - I hated it! Too much "equiping" to do at the start of _every_ round! Also, Nyx knew all the tricks and I didn't - so for many weeks (months?) I was just cannon fodder. Still, somehow, I found the urge to continue. Well, as time went along, I kind of got the "hang" of it and I started to enjoy playing it a bit more (not quite as much when Nyx was present - too many headshots on poor little slow me) but still, it started to become an addiction. So, as the addiction grew, I sought a place to play where some of the less enjoyable elements of the game weren't always distracting me away from my first pursuit - skills! I found that haven in the place where Nyx hung out with some buds and they called themselves Steel Maelstrom. They were cool guys and very tolerant of an old fart (who probably should have grown up much earlier). So, with patience, they accepted me into their fold as a regular visitor. During my time on the SMS server, I made a friend with whom I really enjoyed playing Counter Strike - we just clicked and he had a great sense of humor. His game nick was "Crazy Chicken". I really liked that name because it brought up such a funny image. So, I thought and thought - what kind of goofy name could I adopt that would get "Crazy" laughing. Boom. "Cranky Bullfrog" was born out of that desperate search for a nom de plume. I figured, hey, what goes better with a crazy chicken than some cranky bullfrog? We played a lot together during my early CS years but he went on to other games and I haven't heard from Crazy in a long time. Anyway, I'll bet that's more than you wanted to know. I'll probably be "Cranky Bullfrog" the rest of my gaming career. It's weird enough that not too many people are likely to use it and it's funny. Ok... ok... and some days.............. it fits!
  19. Please add Cranky Bullfrog (B7) and NyxErinyes (B8) to the list. PayPal payment sent earlier today! Thanks! Cranky
  20. Hey SF - excellent work dude and very helpful for someone like me who doesn't know that much about the editing - just terrific information! Thanks for sharing. It's sharing techniques and knowledge like this that really keeps GC fun and friendly. We should do more of it!!! Perhaps we need a separate section on the board just for user-2-user tips! Great job!!!!! Cranky
  21. Yeah, I'm afraid I've got Primus and most everybody else beat. For the record, I'm 51 (and not grown up enough to quit playing CS!) Still, I see another checkmark in the 50+ category so I'm wondering if someone has me beat..... Anybody know who else voted in that group? just curious Cranky.... ......................Age is a great healer...... but it's a really lousy beautician!!!!!
  22. We sure have a lot of young far..... ah, youthful members..... Actually, I'm slightly older than dirt.......... and proud of it......... but not willing to admit it in public.......... (perhaps I don't have to......) Look at the last blip on the chart in the old geez... category - that's-a-me! Cranky
  23. Fatty, Please add NyxErinyes and me to your attendees list (now .... we just gotta go buy HL2 I guess..... ) Cranky

  25. Fatty indicated that I should be able to receive FTP access (as a member of the .gc) so I would like to request this. I had some files I wanted to upload to him and this would greatly facilitate this. Thank you, Cranky
