  1. There's a British car show called Top Gear (if you're any kind of a fan of cars you should know what this show is) and the last 3 years running (I believe) they have done a viewer poll where they have the viewers rate their cars to see which are the most satisfactory ones to live with. The poll is officially the worlds largest car poll so they have lots of votes. All 3 years the S2000 has been the number one car for owner satisfaction. I wish they were a tad prettier and a tad cheaper. I want one.
  2. I had a similar experience. I was sick of Winblows so I switched to Ubuntu...but couldn't do anything I was used to. Then I switched to OS X (because I maintained the ability to boot into Windows if I wanted to) and started working with Ruby on Rails (which works in Windows or OS X but better in OS X) and that's what made me stick with OS X. If you use the pc for not much besides web browsing and watching videos and whatnot then you'll probably stick with Ubuntu because it's awesome.
  3. ZD, your screen is broken. Someone bent it. Maybe you should fix it so it's readable.
  4. It's only the worst ever because you are used to a different (more complicated) message. If you think the trash as "get rid of this" then it's ingenious that it ejects a cd.
  5. It probably had a great twist...if I had any clue at all what that twist was exactly...or what any of it was really.
  6. Umm...I totally live in the country. It takes me 10 minutes to get "to town". Population density in my area is horrid. If stress fractures truly are a problem, I have no doubts that Apple will replace the phone for me (assuming it's their fault and not the users fault...and even then sometimes they're cool about it)
  7. So this also requires MobilMe then? Yeah, definitely don't want that. 1) My laptop is not always connected to the internet. 2) MobilMe costs money.
  8. I do not have a hard drive sitting around anymore. I haven't even owned a desktop in more than a year. I know I can ebay, but I trust you folks more and it's much easier. I'm actually looking for one that can be easily put into a laptop case and carried around. Should probably try to find an old LaCie Rugged.
  9. Looking for an older, small external hard drive. Want to pay less than $50. At least 40gb would be nice, 60-80 would be awesome. Anyone got one for sale?
  10. Yeah, by "selling" it to her I of course meant that she wouldn't let me give it to her because she feels guilty about such an expensive gift (we've only been dating a few months) and keeps telling me that when she gets the money she'll pay me for it (even though I know that day won't come because she can't afford it and I don't expect it to and even if she did I'd just turn around and spend it on her again). I equals win intarnets.
  11. Aw...are you guys bitter that the women in your lives aren't worth making happy and instead exist solely because you have no idea what kind of person you'd be without them? I'm sorry.
  12. Nothing to see here folks. I am not sending a PM to Preacher right now with an XP key.
  13. Got a new iphone over the weekend for a couple reasons. 1) I get lost alot, I HATE waiting 2 minutes while driving to have Google Maps try to find me on Edge and then waiting for the maps to load so I can see the streets around me. GPS + 3G fixes this. 2) My girlfriend wanted an iphone so she purchased my old one. After a single weekend with the new phone I must say, I love it...but I don't love it $15 more a month. Almost immediately I turned off 3G. St. Louis doesn't have very good coverage in the rural areas (an hour or more southwest) and I would get "No Service" on 3G but 4-5 bars on Edge. After day 1 I saw that the battery life was HORRIBLE so I turned off GPS too, that fixed the problem and now my battery is as good as the old iphone (which still means it needs nightly charges). So basically, I'm paying $15 ($10 for the data plan, $5 for 200 texts) more a month for the ability to occasionally have GPS and 3G (which will take me 2 minutes while driving anyway) and a curved back (which I will admit feels amazing in the hand compared to the old phone) So, if you were thinking of upgrading, don't. If you were thinking of buying a new iphone, find a used one instead and get the $20 a month plan. The End.

    Duel game?

Rocket Arena is a Quake 2 and Quake 3 mod that does exactly this. That's most definitely not what you're talking about though. I just wanted to say "HI J!".
  15. My girlfriends company sort of works this way. Any time she works over 40 hours in a week is automatically added to vacation time. She is a salaried employee though so I'm not sure if that's relevant to you if you are hourly.
  16. The video app (like many others) don't yet work with the 2.0 firmware, so if you want to jailbreak your phone you have to go back to the 1.4 firmware which means you don't get the App Store. I have jailbroken every iphone I've had (a total of 3 now) and have reverted to no jailbreak pretty soon afterward. I just never found anything that made me REALLY want to have it jailbroken. Especially right now with 2.0 because the only apps really available are things that change how the iphones interface looks or things that are important for App Developers.
  17. So this PwnageTool doesn't actually install Installer.app, it does a different client called Cydia which is the same thing but open source. Not sure how I feel about it yet.
  18. I was just going to point you to this page: http://www.unlockappleiphone.com/2008/jail...lock-iphone-3g/ which has a link to PwnageTool for Windows. I am in the process of jailbreaking my phone right now. Be sure to have the PwnageTool, your ipsw file and "bootloader" 3.9 and 4.6. I'll let you know how it goes.
  19. ZD, you should have gotten 10 invites to give out yourself (I did). Check your account.
  20. sj, send me one. jamesw at that gmail place.
  21. Nope, it would make it a little worse because right now Monday only comes after 2 days off whereas Tuesday would come after 3 days off.
  22. I have no clue about Visual C# Express. I use Visual Studio at work and I don't program in my spare time (industry burnout...bleh) I'll answer any questions you have...but you're probably already a better programmer than me anyway.
  23. Short answer: VB is just as good, but go with C#. Long answer: If you are brand spanking new to the programming world I would recommend Visual Basic. If you have a little knowledge I would recommend C#. I was a VB (.Net) programmer for 6 years, I am now a C# programmer (for 6 months). In reality, there is basically nothing that you can do in one language that you can't do in the other. The truth of it is that VB is easier to learn, easier to maintain, easier to read and just plain easier to type. The programming world is full of alot of elitist snobs who think that this ease of use makes it "worse". However, since the programming world in general believes C# is better, then you should go with C#. That's the reason I went this route because I found it hard to get people to take me seriously as a VB developer. I came into this job with 2 hours worth of C# experience and no more than 10 hours of experience in C-based languages. I was up and running as a full C# programmer in a few days. My current employers have zero idea I had done that little C# before (I said in the interview that I "didn't have alot of C# experience but could pick it up easily" which is obviously the truth). I will say that programming in a C-based language makes you "feel" like more of a programmer than VB...but I still wouldn't call it better.
  24. I just read Entertainment Weekly's interview with Snyder and he definitely wants to stay true to the book. His current directors cut is over 3 hours but the studio is forcing him to get it down to at least 2 and a half hours.
