If you are on a network iTunes allows you to stream/share music with others but myTunes allows you to download the music instead of only streaming it.

I use iTunes+myTunes since I live in a dorm which is on a lan and have downloaded multiple gigs of music instantly.

Definately get a palm tungsten-e if you can spend $200, I have one and its great. If you dont think he needs a color display and just want the most basic pda then just get a palm zire for like $100, but I would recomend going with palm.
