oh, and i also just finished through a 30-pack of Sony CDRS and made a lot of coasters, as you say.

i've heard that occasionally cheap-o CDRS do not retain information for longer than a couple of months, like the data just gets washed away. Is that true? I was wonderin myself.... I buy these CDRS that look like little records, theyve got grooves and all, and theyre not that much more expensive than regular CDRS. -noah

i believe it's gonna be released at around 6 p.m. (Eastern Time). thats what was said on the steam forum yesterday... but i just went to check those forums and it said "steam is experiencing network outtages, so the forums are offline." i dunno, maybe thats delaying the release?

got mine preloaded, too (don't ask why, but I bought CZ). unfortunately, though, i probably won't even be able to play it (1300 Mhz, Geforce Ultra2, 256 mbs of ram...let's just say I'm not getting my hopes up...getting it open and being able to see it even at like, 10 fps would be nice, though). -noah

x800Pro vivo is $300, while 9800xt is $350. whats up with that, if x800pro is the better card? -noah

I was under the impression the 9800XT was next gen, shows what i know...that is the best card that Shuttle PC seems to offer with their comps... and it says there is a specialized cooling system to get rid of all the heat made by this card... does that mean that these systems won't be able handle next-gen cards (assuming they make more heat than the 9800xt, which makes sense since theyre more powerful)? one more thing: should i go for the P4 or AMD Athlon 64 3400?

This is the computer I'm (maybe) going to buy. Its one of those Shuttle PCS. The specs are: Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.4GHz 800MHz FSB RAM: 2GB Kingston HyperX PC3200 Dual Channel Video Card: Radeon 9800XT 256MB Hard drive: 160GB SATA 7200RPM (or 74GB 10000RPM 8MB Cache? which is a lot more dough, and less space) i will be using this for gaming/music production. -noah

what exactly makes macs better for protools, and audio stuff?

ahhh man.... so much to think about! things were much simpler when i was recording with a tascam 4-track...hit record, lay down some guitar...overdub some vocals, then drums...but its just so damn limiting. not to mention the sound (everything wrapped in a thick layer of static...). i'm starting to think limits are better though... i want to get a laptop because i have instruments scattered all around my house. grand piano in one room...pedal steel in another... i dont have a good set of drums so i would want to be able to go over to a friends house and record drums there... basically the freedom to have a self-contained portable studio. my brother has a real nice apple powerbook and i tested out protools on it and it ran rather well. guess im gonna have to do some more thinking on this one. noah

thanks. sounds like solid advice so i'll probably just buy a cheap laptop to function as my studio and then maybe get a friend of mine to build me a state-ofthe-art rig on the cheap. probably could spend about a 1,000 on all the makings for a real nice computer, right? thanks for the advice, noah

I'm finally getting a new computer. My current rig is a Dell Dimension 8100 desktop and it is starting to show its age. I need a more powerful computer because I recently purchased Protools (recording software) to replace my old analog multi-track studio and my current computer can't run it without crashing. My old Dell is also incapable of playing most new pc games. I definitely decided on getting a laptop so it can be a mobile music studio (also I am going to college next year...hopefully). So this new computer will be functioning mainly as a music studio, but I also want to be able to play the current crop of pc games (farcry, hl2 soon) on it. Any and all suggestions appreciated, noah

For the past week or so, my CS has been crashing almost everytime I use it for more than say, 5 mins. I get this error: CounterStrike:hl.exe - Application Error The Instruction at "oxoc185969" referenced memory at "0x0c4157f0". The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program. Is anyone else gettin this message? Or is it a problem with my computer, rather than steam or hl? I don't know much about computers and I've never gotten a message like this so I'd appreciate an interpretation of the above in laymen's terms. thanks, noah

yeh... im gettin the same thing. although, some servers are populated. so i guess it's not affecting everyone. but i can't get on these servers anyway. my screen kinda freezes up for a sec, i can't click cancel, and then i get the SERVER VALIDATION FAILED stuff. And yes... i rebooted, logged out, still not working. steam has been actin a bit sketchy overall the past week for me.

Ahhhh yes, I'm sorry. I just went onto another server to see what my name was when I was banned. My name at the time was the very offensive blacknasty.Aids.cant.stop.me. (my bro plays on this comp withis this tag). I actually came onto the server the other day wwith this tag on and just got a warnin no ban, this time I got banned before I even realized I had the tag on. I'll make sure I never do this again. So yeah, I don't know what my steam id is... nor am i sure of how to find out what it is... but ill try to find it and post another message with it. Thanks magruter, noah.
