Birdman August 4, 2004 Share Birdman Member August 4, 2004 Post up your Doom 3 settings and benchmark results. To run the Timedemo Ctrl+Alt+~ then type Timedemo Demo1. Settings for me: 1024x768 High Quality(Which means 8xAF and uncompressed textures) Everything on in game except for Vsync No AA Quality settings in ATI Control Panel w/ Tripple Buffering =24.4FPS For some reason the game plays a lot smoother than the time demo lets on, but either way there are my initial results. Here are my computers specs. AMD Athlon XP 3000+@2.267GHz]-[ABIT NF7-S]-[512MB Crucial PC3200]-[Radeon 9800XT]-[180GXP w/8MB cache HD]-[sB Audigy]

TeK August 4, 2004 Share TeK Member August 4, 2004 (edited) is the game capped at 60 no matter what ? i have vsync off and it won't budge above it. Yes the game is capped at 60. As far as it goes. I probably get negative fps on this. I played it at 8X6 with low quality and no special settings. Needless to say it was still unplayable. Can't believe the raping it does on the computer. All Kill3r August 4, 2004 Share All Kill3r Member August 4, 2004 capped so low gives innacurate results. extra fps above the 60 are just lost... *wonders why the caps at 60 * -edit- i ran it again with fraps on, and it showed upto 75fps during the demo. maybe the demo's not capped, only the game... Fatty August 4, 2004 Share Fatty GC Founder August 4, 2004 Make sure you save your game before doing this! (i had a quicksave, just noticed tehre was no going back) I got 25 FPS on that test. As I noted in the other forum, 1024 made me feel sludgey... I'm running 800 x 600. Specs: 2.1 ghz Amd XP 2600+ 1 gb ram Radeon 9600 Maybe it's time for a new vidcard already?!?! This game is brutal. Fatty August 4, 2004 Share Fatty GC Founder August 4, 2004 For some reason the game plays a lot smoother than the time demo lets on I agree, but then again, when those dewds are jumping at you and rocking your head back, I dunno if it's loss of FPS or half concussion. PS. I know this is hardware talk, but I'm gonna move this over to the Doom3 forum so that people who are playing it but don't look here might give us some more data. Birdman August 4, 2004 Author Share Birdman Member August 4, 2004 Specs: 2.1 ghz Amd XP 2600+ 1 gb ram Radeon 9600 Dang that aint too bad for that setup. Anyone else had their butt handed to them in game yet? I just got whipped . I think the game may only be capped @ 60 for multiplay. Or maybe you can uncap it for singleplayer. Anyway they capped it @ 60 becuase in other >id< games, like Quake 3, Strange things start to happen to the physics in multiplayer when people get over 300FPS. Now i doubt people are gonna be getting over 300FPS in the game for awhile, but since the physics are prolly really heavy in multiplayer(note the limit of 4 people)maybe the physics hax are amplified. Let it be known that im talking almost entirely out of my butt. I gots some pimp screenshots so far. F12 takes screenshots for those that don't know. Guest PDO August 4, 2004 Share Guest PDO Guests August 4, 2004 Will it be playable on my PC? 2200+ AMD, 512 DDR, Radeon 9000 128meg
Birdman August 4, 2004 Author Share Birdman Member August 4, 2004 (edited) Will it be playable on my PC? 2200+ AMD, 512 DDR, Radeon 9000 128meg I would say yes to everything but the video card. A 9600pro would be a nice upgrade, but would cost about 150 bucks or so. 1Gig of ram would be great, but not needed. I'd wait for the demo and try it on your current setup and then make a decision. Birdman August 4, 2004 Author Share Birdman Member August 4, 2004 Something tells me I should be doing better^^^^^. Course that is on a 3.2GHz P4 with w/ 2 Gigs of ram, but still. Maybe RAM is more important with this game than I thought.

All Kill3r August 4, 2004 Share All Kill3r Member August 4, 2004 nice ! i wonder if having that much ram really will make a difference with DOOM3 ? Ultra quality really hits hard. someone around has to have a 9800Pro for you to compare with ! Wheres Wilco when you need him
Birdman August 4, 2004 Author Share Birdman Member August 4, 2004 (edited) If any of you are having trouble with your monitor defaulting to 60Hz(happens to me in every openGl id powered game, and tends to burn my retinas out) then bring up the console. Ctrl+Alt+~ then type r_displayrefresh xxx (where xxx is the desired refresh rate, 85 for me) then to make the changes take affect type vid_restart ^^^that's pretty much my system. Wonder if that is comparable to the demo1 benchmark we are using? I'm thinking about taking >id< up on their suggestion to defrag before the Doom 3 install. Course first i would have to uninstall then reinstall. Edited August 4, 2004 by Birdman
All Kill3r August 4, 2004 Share All Kill3r Member August 4, 2004 my guess is that demo is different then the one we are running. I haven't got to the Enpro Level yet, but i've been to the places in the timedemo

All Kill3r August 4, 2004 Share All Kill3r Member August 4, 2004 dont know if this has been posted, but it gives pretty good estimates to what you should expect from a lot of differenct cards. High/mid/low end cards in this one. Just note that the test were all done on a 2.6ghz fx-53 CPU. Click
