DirtyBird September 30, 2005 Share DirtyBird Member September 30, 2005 My good buddy Sal has just posted an article on how to build a mini-PC. Very cool and interesting read. http://pc.gamespy.com/articles/654/654813p1.html
Cujo October 1, 2005 Share Cujo Member October 1, 2005 wow a 3.8 in a mini pc is just asking for trouble. a guy i live with has a 3.2 and his temps hit 70c and above with the cover on. he takes it off and it wails away full fan speed.
Guest zerodamage October 1, 2005 Share Guest zerodamage Guests October 1, 2005 He went with the wrong CPU, otherwise it is a great little system. Should have gone Athlon 64. Much less heat in such a small case.
Cujo October 1, 2005 Share Cujo Member October 1, 2005 my guess is he was paid to go with intel. there's no way any gamer who knows anything about computers would build an intel box. especially a mini pc intel box.
Guest zerodamage October 1, 2005 Share Guest zerodamage Guests October 1, 2005 Yeah, it was a great article. I just think the choice of CPU was a bad one. They run very hot compared to the A64's, not to mention the AMD solution is cheaper.
NOFX October 2, 2005 Share NOFX Member October 2, 2005 my guess is he was paid to go with intel. there's no way any gamer who knows anything about computers would build an intel box. especially a mini pc intel box. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm a gamer and I have an intel, but at the time when Hyperthreading was in its prime. The responsiveness of multi-tasking was far superior to the AMD XP's. Now if I was to buy a new CPU, AMD 64 3800+ X2 fo shizzle or possibly a dual operteron setup if it would be cheaper. dual opteron's == 1Mb Cache, but a dual socket mobo may be a little expensive.
