Frog November 23, 2005 Share Frog Member November 23, 2005 I have a Hyundai 19" flat screen monitor... ....and the other night I was playing around in my options again and I set my video options to Widescreen (16:9 I believe, not sure) and my screen went black with a box in the middle that said "Video Mode Not Supported". The only thing I could do was "Ctrl + Alt + Del" to get out of the program. Now everytime that I try and run CS, my screen goes back to that black screen. I did everything to try and fix. I even deleted all my game config files, but nothing worked. Anyone have any thoughts besides not to play with my settings>
witt November 23, 2005 Share witt Member November 23, 2005 um, if your monitor is not widescreen I don't think it will run in 16:9. if you can find out the command for screen ratio, insert into an autoexec.cfg file in your cstrike folder. That's my best idea. Sorry that happened
Frog November 23, 2005 Author Share Frog Member November 23, 2005 Sounds pretty easy......:-) I think I'm going to re-install :-(
Frog November 23, 2005 Author Share Frog Member November 23, 2005 After re-installing the program, it's still not working. What else might I be able to do, so I can play?
bulletmagnet November 23, 2005 Share bulletmagnet Member November 23, 2005 try running it in window mode so you can get the 16:9 ratio ... then change it back to normal in teh settings? add -window at the end of the shortcut or something

mookie December 30, 2005 Share mookie GC Alumni December 30, 2005 I must've missed this as it went by. You can set the resolution for CS:S in the launch options. Add "-w #### -h ###." Example launch options (my own): -w 1024 -h 768 -windowed
dEL December 31, 2005 Share dEL Member December 31, 2005 Does it let you set custom resolutions? Such as 1754 x 1348
mookie December 31, 2005 Share mookie GC Alumni December 31, 2005 It might let you do some arbitrary resolution in windowed, but I doubt it will if not windowed.
Frog February 15, 2006 Author Share Frog Member February 15, 2006 I had to connect an old monitor and then reset my settings to a non-widescreen mode. After that it was all good.
stutters February 15, 2006 Share stutters GC Alumni February 15, 2006 one of these days i'm going to find out you guys are really joking about the windowed mode. and then i'll stop screaming.
mookie February 15, 2006 Share mookie GC Alumni February 15, 2006 It's the best way to play. No waiting for Alt-Tab to work, I can see who's talking on TS, and still rock steady at my usual fps_max 30.
Frog February 16, 2006 Author Share Frog Member February 16, 2006 The only problem I have experienced in windowed mode is that I cant reach my options when i hit escape. My mouse goes to the desktop vs. in game options. This might just be my system, I'm ot sure.

That's odd, on mine it just lets me either mouse over the options in the game or off onto the rest of Windows.
