mookie November 17, 2006 Share mookie GC Alumni November 17, 2006 OK so my brother is going to graduate high school this year, and I figure there's a good chance I'll be asked to put a machine together for him. This would be sometime after April (acceptance/decision time), but before the end of summer. I've still got my stuff together on secondary and tertiary storage devices, but that's about it since the last PC I put together was a Northwood. So, if you were looking at building a machine (#1 for reliability, #2 for performance) next summer, hopefully to come in well under $1000 w/o display, what are you thinking about? I know the future is mirky, but I'm bored on this Friday afternoon. Anyway, any insights into this will probably be useful to others besides me as well. boiler November 17, 2006 Share boiler Member November 17, 2006 I love love love love love love my core 2 duo E6600 they should be cheaper by then with the quad cores coming out, and the line ought to still be formidable. at least consider an intel system, they're finally doing some good things! Cujo November 17, 2006 Share Cujo Member November 17, 2006 lol check back then. if i had to guess you'd be looking at a core 2 duo system with some un-released gfx card.
