Temps, again

I know that there's probably a billion threads about this already, but what do you use for monitoring your cpu temps? I recently (today) OC'd my cpu to 3.4 w/ 1.4v, but it was running (or so it said) at 54C under load. So I dropped it to 1.38v, and it cooled off to 52C under load.

I was usuing NVIDIA Monitor View (software that came with the mobo - eVGA 680i sli) but I loaded up coretemp. With coretemp it reads temps sitting at 36-40 idle, while NVidia Monitor View is also saying 46 at the same time. I know it cools off really fast, but under system monitor in the bios it said 36-37C. What temp should I trust?

using my friends temp gun I figured out that my CPU is exactly 2 degrees C cooler than Asus Probe II says it is. Coretemp says that it is 2 degrees cooler than asus probe so it should be almost exact.

My thought is how can (or why would) my motherboard send info to coretemp different than it sends to asus probe? Since I am running an Asus board shouldn't probe be the most accurate? Wierdness

If your CPU is actually running that hot, it will burn up very fast. You need to have it under 50 to preserve it's lifespan. My suggestion is to get a new CPU cooler and upgrade your case fans and add a PCI slot fan. For under $70 you should be able to drastically cool off your system.

I have a Vantec duel fan slot fan to help cool PCI area. PM me and we'll work out a trade or sale (cheap) http://www.xoxide.com/fancard.html

As far as the CPU cooler : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835118115 or if that is too big: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16835128014

Then add these if you have 120mm case fans then these will cool your system great: http://www.xoxide.com/th12blledsmf.html if you are stuck with 80mm fans then try a few of these: http://www.xoxide.com/smartfan.html

If you have a little more space then this is the best case fan (I have one in mine: http://www.xoxide.com/thermaltake-silent-w...-130mm-fan.html

You could also add a bay cooler like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817122110 to improve airflow around your hard drives.

I would like to note that all fans are not created equal and most cheap fans push very little air and often become noisy when they age a bit.
