hmm is the 4400+ to the 6000+ much of an upgrade? it would save me from buying a new mobo and might give me enough performance to run my SLI setup

If you aren't into overclocking, then going from 4400+ (2.2Ghz) to 6000+ (3Ghz) is an 800mhz boost for $160 minus whatever you sell your 4400+ for. THG CPU charts will give you some benchmarks on improvement. Note that on the 4400+, 2.6Ghz is easily attainable with good cooling. So comes down to is your time spent overclocking and tweaking worth more than the cost difference above. If you want to overclock, then the 5000+ black edition is unlocked and cheaper and should go to 3Ghz easy.

Also keep in mind that AM2 Quads are later this year. Depending on your setup you may be able to pop in one of those with just a motherboard bios update.
