Dual Channel Memory Question

We all know that Windows XP only supports 3 GB of memory. But, to have Dual Channel support, you must have matching dimms. So, does the computer operate on Dual Channel mode when you put 4 GB (1 GB x 4) even though only 3 GB is recognized by XP? Or, is the other Dimm completely ignored?

Thanks!

Ben

yes, it will be running dual channel with 4x1gb in 32bit os. dual channel is a motherboard thing where as the ram limit is an os thing. they are unrelated.

just make sure you have the mobo bios setting related to ram mapping set correctly. you post screen should only see 3.25 or 2.75 not 4096.
