Unclean May 6, 2008 Author Share Unclean Member May 6, 2008 I got another one... they wanted 255 British Pounds before they could send me 1 million pounds. I think I'm going to mess with this guy. The email resolved to a student address at a Columbian college, so I'm going to email that person directly: Hello Juan Espinosa, I noticed you have been sending out scam emails about a UK Lottery. You may be wondering how I got your name and email address. That isn't important right now. What is important is that your emails were very sloppy. I can teach you how to make the emails untraceable, and how to make them appear completely legitimate. You will make very large amounts of money if you follow my suggestions. My suggestions do come at a price, however. You will have to send me $100 USD as a gesture of good faith. You will easily make that money back with your first successful scam. If you do not send me $100 by May 11, then I will contact your university and your local police department. Your university's IT department will easily be able to tell you have been sending emails from your account. At best, you face expulsion from your university. At worst, you will face jail time. The choice is yours. Send me $100 and learn how to construct effective scam emails, or get expelled and go to jail. I will not be sending him any tips... just taking his money. What do you think? Can I scam a scammer?
dwEEziL May 6, 2008 Share dwEEziL Member May 6, 2008 (edited) That there is coercion and you yourself could actually face penalty/jail time if you do send it. There's no guarantee that "Juan" is actually the one sending it. His computer could easily have been infected and his account information stolen. What you need to do is send an e-mail with his original e-mail attached (attach it, don't forward it...this way the e-mail headers are intact) to his university's abuse e-mail address (it's typically abuse@<uni>.edu) reporting the abuse. YoMamma May 6, 2008 Share YoMamma Member May 6, 2008 That there is coercion and you yourself could actually face penalty/jail time if you do send it. Funny e-mail, Unclean, but Dweezil is right. You cannot turn around and ask him for money (even as a joke), plus that email is worded as blackmail. You will end up in the same place as this guy in the eyes of the law if you send it in that form.
