Lunk November 30, 2008 Share Lunk Member November 30, 2008 I just added another stick of 2gb memory. How do I get my XP Home Edition to recognize all 4 gigs I now have. It only reads 3.25gigs when I right click on "My Computer" and go to properties.
dragonfly November 30, 2008 Share dragonfly Member November 30, 2008 By using a 64-bit operating system. Maybe Vista since XP64 doesn't really have near as much support. Maybe there's a complicated way to do it, but not as far as I know. I think it has to do with the amount of memory locations 32 bits can address or something. Assembly was last year and I don't ever need to take it again Short answer: you can't.
stutters November 30, 2008 Share stutters GC Alumni November 30, 2008 same thing happened to me. people swore that a 32bit os couldn't use all 4gb, unless you upgrade to xp sp3. is that pro only? regardless, it still doesn't make sense to me. glad i could help. ZeroDamage November 30, 2008 Share ZeroDamage Member November 30, 2008 32-bit Windows only does 4GB max and there is no way around it. The 4GB includes whatever RAM your video card has. So if you video card has 512MB, then your OS will only show 3.5 GB of RAM. If you want it fixed, get a 64-bit Windows.
