Movie Making

Basically I have an AVI format movie that I need to chop up and make into a smaller movie. For some reason vista and movie maker doesn't like avi format. I get a black screen every time I try to preview an imported movie on movie maker. Thanks for any help.

Try this program it's called Prism it's free and it works pretty good. I've been using it on my macbook. They also have a version for windows.

It is because of the codec for the AVI. If you convert it it will work in movie maker.

I'll try prism, the other converter programs want to put a water mark on it.... Which is a big turn off

They are pretty big files, upwards of a gig.

This free program will convert it without the watermark. I use it all the time and have it installed on my Mac, Ubuntu, and Windows computers. Awesome program.

You're welcome Mag, I meant to tell you. Prism doesn't leave a watermark.
