Playaa March 10, 2009 Share Playaa Member March 10, 2009 My fiance is in her 2nd to last class in college ever tonight. She has her final this evening at 6pm central time. Her final is open book. She purchased the class book as an eBook through her school. The eBook is set to only work on one computer. The computer the eBook works with is broken. The school is completely unhelpful. She cannot get the book from anyone else in time. The book uses Adobe Digital Editions DRM. It is crackable from what I have found online...but I can't find out how to crack it (Adobe forced the guy to take down the links). I need this pdf cracked and output as text by 5:00pm central time tonight. That gives you 5 hours. Anyone think they can help? I'm uploading the file to Dropbox as we speak to share. Could REALLY use this guys. Use your pointless browsing hours for a purpose please.

Unclean March 10, 2009 Share Unclean Member March 10, 2009 I've got a few PDF utilities here at work, but none seem to get past the initial load. Have you tried calling Adobe and explaining the situation? I bet this isn't the first time their customer service fielded a call like this. /edit: here's the contact info. Playaa March 10, 2009 Author Share Playaa Member March 10, 2009 The problem is that I'm at work and don't have the time to call a support line. She is at home finishing up her 30 page term paper that is due tonight and also doesn't have time. Any help I can get would be amazing.
Playaa March 10, 2009 Author Share Playaa Member March 10, 2009 Also, the book was purchased through her school. The worst school I have ever seen as far as administration tasks. They had her as failing a class she dropped before the class started. That kept her GPA down, which kept her from getting in other classes. That is one of the easiest to explain screw ups that they did. I don't think they will be any help.
Playaa March 10, 2009 Author Share Playaa Member March 10, 2009 10 minute conversation with someone at Adobe Support who had to ask me to explain myself 5 times because he couldn't understand my english and he finally told me: "You have to go to the online support forums to get this question answered." :-\
stutters March 10, 2009 Share stutters GC Alumni March 10, 2009 i went through a similar problem. was remote, book was downloaded/drm'd for my home machine. needed to access it to write the paper. spent about 2 days exhausting everything i could to break the drm, but no dice. only thing i didn't try was tech/customer support/. i'd really, really, really, really recommend one of you two put the phone on speaker, wait to go through the queue, and dual track this. putting a grade on faith that your online friends can resolve this is quite a gamble... NOFX March 10, 2009 Share NOFX Member March 10, 2009 dude I can't tell you if it works or not... but it took me about 5 seconds to find this http://www.ensode.net/pdf-crack.jsf
Playaa March 10, 2009 Author Share Playaa Member March 10, 2009 Already called customer support. They said post it in the forums. I did that. The thing is that last night at the school library, I found a page advertising a python script that had cracked Adobe's DRM. Adobe had forced them to take it down but it was still out there somewhere. The problem is that I can't find that site again. I think I found the python files...but no way to use them...I have no idea how.

Playaa March 10, 2009 Author Share Playaa Member March 10, 2009 Actually that first one is for "epub" files. However, there is a version of that somewhere on the internet that is for pdf's, but Adobe had him take the links down.
Playaa March 10, 2009 Author Share Playaa Member March 10, 2009 Ok, here is the pdf one: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/71072/f6180683b.txt Now if only I could get python running on the machine that barely works that is sitting an hour from me with computer illiterate people I can get the encryption key! :-/

EbilDustBunny March 10, 2009 Share EbilDustBunny GC Alumni March 10, 2009 My lazy way would be using the snapshot tool in adobe reader and use Microsofts Office Imaging to translate the picture into text you can work with. The command is in tools> Recognize text using OCR. Using the computer that it works on.... then again it's prolly a big book. I retract my idea. T.T -edit- Yeha you said it worked on 1 pc right? print it out!
Playaa March 10, 2009 Author Share Playaa Member March 10, 2009 It's not a password problem. It's a DRM problem. The computer it works on, barely works...and is an hour from me with people who can't do things with it. If I had gotten those python scripts working at 2 am this morning I'd be fine. I figured it out I think...but I can't get to the computer to get the code.

I found a blog that said how gmail used to remove DRMs... but then they fixed the glitch. like 2 yrs ago "ha" i kept reading down into the comments.... Then I found another article that might help? http://chosaq.net/archives/2006/05/gmail-c...ctionality.html Sigh i retract this idea too... i'm on a fail roll. Unclean March 10, 2009 Share Unclean Member March 10, 2009 Man, what kind of crap help is that? You call support, and they say "I dunno, check the forums" and hang up on you? Can you call back and ask to speak to a level 2 tech? Or someone that knows what they're talking about? No way is that acceptable in my book. Btw, sorry I can't help more right now - I have an hour and a half commute, so I'll be getting home JUST as your fiankey starts her exam.

Playaa March 10, 2009 Author Share Playaa Member March 10, 2009 Didn't get there in time. I was literally searching the web for "Marketing class notes" and gave her a huge word doc full of them. We'll see how she does. If I had got those python things working last night we probably would have been fine. Pretty sure they were my answer.
