mrX August 12, 2010 Share mrX GC Alumni August 12, 2010 Anyone have any experience with website chat, or live chat type scripts/programs? I'd like to be able to have visitors to my website basically be able to IM me. I've seen different places that host them and then you just put some code on your site for the chat, but I'd think something exists that's a standalone that can be put on your own server. I'm still researching it, but looking for any input.
Preacher August 13, 2010 Share Preacher Member August 13, 2010 we had a chat box feature on our clan site for some time , but noone used it. It was cool though. We changed it out and made a shoutbox instead. Similar to the deal on the left hand side of our forum main page here, but better . Facebook type chat or yahoo messenger type chat can both be used from the webpage (google too) Personally I use pidgin client for all chat clients and it is very good (and free)
stutters August 13, 2010 Share stutters GC Alumni August 13, 2010 liveperson was the best option a couple years back, and they had some low volume plans that made it pretty affordable. i don't know if they're still offering that. there's also a really basic google talk widget you can throw on your page: http://googletalk.blogspot.com/2008/02/google-talk-chatback.html or if you want to roll your own, look into xmpp/jabber: http://xmpp.org/ http://code.google.com/apis/talk/
mrX August 14, 2010 Author Share mrX GC Alumni August 14, 2010 That google talk one looks interesting. May try that. Been looking at http://www.phplivesupport.com/ and https://www.livezilla.net/home/en/ but haven't had an opportunity to mess with them. I like the phplivesupport one's ability to track visitors and having the source code to customize. But I've got to make it simple for a couple others to use. Google may fit that bill. Thank you.
