Soap May 13, 2012 Share Soap Member May 13, 2012 (edited) I mentioned this to Valve but had no response but thought it would be perfect for GC. Have mixed-map versus. So first level Dead center both sides get a turn. Level two, dark carnival level two. Level three, parish level three. Level four, etc and mix and mesh finales. Any thoughts from the admins? Biggs May 13, 2012 Share Biggs GC Alumni May 13, 2012 Huh, in terms of coding it, I'm not sure how to carry over the score when switching maps like this. That sounds like the only hard part to me.
swatfishy May 13, 2012 Share swatfishy Member May 13, 2012 Seems interesting but also really prone to crashes
Soap May 14, 2012 Author Share Soap Member May 14, 2012 Any thoughts on ways to over come that biggs? and swat, why would it crash? (i'm not sure how that works...)
Fenix May 14, 2012 Share Fenix Member May 14, 2012 Having to deal with the map's full loading screen for each stage would suck.
swatfishy May 14, 2012 Share swatfishy Member May 14, 2012 I have no idea of the technical details, but having to load a whole new map for each round seems like there is plenty of opportunities for crashing, not to mention the waiting for slow loaders
JackieChan May 14, 2012 Share JackieChan GC Alumni May 14, 2012 You're technically loading in a new map after each map has been played out.
Soap May 14, 2012 Author Share Soap Member May 14, 2012 Isn't each stage loading a 'new map' anyway? It seems as though it would be easy to setup.... and also a blast for everyone.
JackieChan May 14, 2012 Share JackieChan GC Alumni May 14, 2012 Yeah, every new stage is a new map. I dunno though, I feel this is one of those ideas that would seem good on paper, but most likely wouldn't be well received on the server. Soap May 14, 2012 Author Share Soap Member May 14, 2012 If you have a chance to toss the idea around the "board room" so to speak I would appreciate it jackie
Flitterkill May 14, 2012 Share Flitterkill GC Board Member May 14, 2012 JC is the Alpha and Omega for L4D2 @ GC. The rest of us on the board just smile a lot and mill about randomly, at least when it comes to this server.
Soap May 14, 2012 Author Share Soap Member May 14, 2012 oh well if you think it something I can mention let me know but if you think it might be better if you did it I would most certainly appreciate it
ValenAlvern May 14, 2012 Share ValenAlvern Member May 14, 2012 Isn't each stage loading a 'new map' anyway? It seems as though it would be easy to setup.... and also a blast for everyone. Someone could test it out, on which loading is quicker. I asusume Campaign would since it knows (Or rather the maps are attached to eachother) that it would load more quickly. Play c1m1, close the saferoom door Play c1m1, then load c2m2, without closing the door. If it is slower, people with fast connections will complain, people with bad/slow computers will not (cough)
JackieChan May 14, 2012 Share JackieChan GC Alumni May 14, 2012 It depends on what is already "pre-loaded". If you were to play c4m1 (Hard Rain), loading c4m2 will be faster than loading say c5m1 since textures are already cached.
Biggs May 14, 2012 Share Biggs GC Alumni May 14, 2012 (edited) Meh I don't care too much about load times, alot of players use that short intermission to go to the bathroom... God knows they need to after playing 3 campaigns straight. I wouldn't see longer loads as a huge drawback... but, I don't really see this being a hugely popular variant. *If it's easy to code, Jackie, we could test it for a couple days and see what people think.
