Birdman January 20, 2004 Share Birdman Member January 20, 2004 Hardocp.com has an excellent review of the 5700U in which they compare the two most popular cores from ATI and Nvidia. The 5700U looks sweet as canned Bees. http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTU5LDE= Looks neck and neck throughout. ATI shows a lil' nicer image quality though. And i found it interesting that a 3Ghz processor wont speed up games when compared to a 2.4Ghz processor when midrange video card are concerned. Wonder if the same holds true for AMD processors and High end video cards? " So what have we learned? Apparently a 600MHz CPU speed difference did not affect the games like we thought it would with our mainstream level cards. I was dead sure there would be a few of these newer games where there was a huge difference, but alas, there were not, only moderate differences in performance. It appears the games we are using are very video card dependent, especially when you have AA and AF enabled like we have done and which many people are using now. I would say the games that CPU speed affected most were Max Payne 2, NFS: Underground and Call of Duty, clearly very mixed. Overall video card performance such as overclocking the Albatron FX5700U helped more. As for which card scales better with the CPU? That again appears to be a mixed bag, in some games the FX5700U benefited more from a faster CPU, and in others the 9600XT did. "

Birdman January 20, 2004 Author Share Birdman Member January 20, 2004 On the chipset related front looks like ATI is gonna put a lil salt into the huge gash that Nvidia has in its side and maybe even knife Nvidia in the back. I like the N-Force 2 platform as much as the next guy but ATI is gonna be taking care of me in the future looks like. From the OCP " Finally, let me close with this. This 9100 IGP has gotten me very excited to see what ATI's next-gen chipset will be like. The rumor mill has it that it will be packed with enthusiast features that the hardcore will be looking for. We did have a chance to experience a MSI OEM mainboard on our test benches that sported the ATI 9100 IGP. We ran it at 100% for over a week at 232MHz FSB and it never faltered once. I think ATI's chipset future is so bright, the competition has better be finding some very dark shades. Now what about that ATI AMD chipset? " If yah want a shuttle case that accepts the input of the p4 chip this is an excellent setup http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NTYyLDE=

All Kill3r February 5, 2004 Share All Kill3r Member February 5, 2004 The 5700U was a good read but the 9600XT is a clear winner and the price is not to be beat.
soul .gc February 5, 2004 Share soul .gc Member February 5, 2004 pricewatch.com usually has lower prices.
[Mmmm]Homer February 5, 2004 Share [Mmmm]Homer Member February 5, 2004 Pricewatch can be like Russian roulette for service however. Check the seller's ratings. See how long it takes them to ship an item. Check to see if they backorder items. Check on their return policy, if any.
