bullet-401 January 27, 2004 Share bullet-401 Member January 27, 2004 Yeah but then also if you get a Athlon 64 you would also have to get a new mobo and registered ram. (very pricy for the ram) And plus... I just got two 512 sticks of Kingston Hyper-X PC-3200 for free.

All Kill3r January 27, 2004 Share All Kill3r Member January 27, 2004 (edited) Yeah but then also if you get a Athlon 64 you would also have to get a new mobo and registered ram really ? thought it was FX-51 that was registered ECC ram. Other 64bit cpu's dont need it unless your talking like 2+gigabytes of memory ? Homer beat me to it. Edited January 27, 2004 by All Kill3r
[Mmmm]Homer January 27, 2004 Share [Mmmm]Homer Member January 27, 2004 Only the FX-51 requires registered RAM. Your RAM would work fine in an A64 3000+, 3200+, or 3400+.
[Mmmm]Homer January 27, 2004 Share [Mmmm]Homer Member January 27, 2004 And of course you would need a new motherboard.
Cyklik January 27, 2004 Share Cyklik Member January 27, 2004 What kinda heatsink you have on the 64 bit cpu? The stock hsf for now. And it's usually about 35 under a load. We still have room for improvement.
Birdman January 27, 2004 Share Birdman Member January 27, 2004 35? not bad what does the stocker look like on the 64's? does it have a copper base? or all aluminium? and about how big is the fan?
[Mmmm]Homer January 27, 2004 Share [Mmmm]Homer Member January 27, 2004 And more importantly to me, how loud/quiet is the stock HSF? 35 sounds good to me too, especially under load.
Cyklik January 28, 2004 Share Cyklik Member January 28, 2004 Just got back from work, and I'm crazy tired, so I'll save most of the important stuff for the morning. I'll be posting pics tomorrow as soon as I upload them, and I'll make sure to take an inside the case picture, including the heatsink. It's pretty quiet, even with the heatsink and 5 fans in there. I'd say my hard dive is competing for loudest thing in the case. But yeah, the hsf has an all copper bottom, looks pretty standard. Anyhow, I'm off to bed, I'll try to get some pics posted before class tomorrow.
