  1. Most people who go to college graduate with an insane debt. Some people can't afford to go at all. No matter what you decide, be thankful that you any options, let alone these options.
  2. Save this conversation. Come back to it in six years. Laugh.
  3. I haven't mentioned any of the foreign schools specifically because I made a general statement about foreign schools already. I don't understand your rationale about Princeton, though. It sounds like you're specifically going to a computer science program. Urbana is on the top 10 list. Princeton isn't. Why are you depressed about not going to a school that ranks worse for the program you want to go to?
  4. It sounds like you're sold on Princeton. Ultimately you should choose based on your gut/intuition, but it also sounds like you're choosing based on acceptance rates. I think that's a little silly, but it's not my decision. I'm a manager that hires developers. I have to tell you that I'd put Princeton students below a true engineering university, but no, I don't know anyone that's graduated from Princeton. I can also tell you that Urbana made the US News top 10 for CS programs. Princeton is not in the top 10. http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/engineering-doctorate-computer
  5. Don't do the community college/junior college route unless you have to. It doesn't sound like you have to. Your dad's startup may be unstable, but it's profitable for now. If something happens and you can't afford it in a year or two, deal with that then. This is a really tough question to answer at your age. Even if you're confident now, it'll probably change in 4 years. What do you want to do? Be in management or be a maker? Management is "success" to a lot of people, but if your passion is making things, don't aim for management. Princeton will groom you for management, Illinois (or Rutger) is known for engineering. If you're uncertain, go for the engineering now and get an MBA later. I'd save abroad for either a short term (semester or less) study session or graduate school. Don't do undergrad abroad unless you're going to the Indian Institute of Technology. And since you didn't ask, I'd really, really encourage you to consider adding electrical engineering as a double major. The market is moving to such nuanced computing devices, having the hardware side is more important than strict computer science. Doing both is a golden ticket. Congratulations. Sounds like you've got a ton of opportunity ahead of you.
  6. Yeah, I was posting that link more for m0m. It sounded like he was thinking what I was: you can't set QoS specific to a link port, but apparently I was wrong. Are you running 1.0.0.22 firmware? http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/en/Disclaimer.aspx?redirecturl=http://netgeardownload.registria.com/single_page_registration?product[sku]=wndr3400v3&download_url=http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WNDR3400V3/WNDR3400V3_V1.0.0.22_1.0.29.zip
  7. I'll be damned. PDF link, page 48. http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WNDR3400V3/WNDR3400v3_UM_10May2013.pdf
  8. You're going to go bald from pulling your hair out dealing with Netgear support. Look, it sounds like this was working at one point, then it stopped working after you made some changes. Humor me and reset your router settings to factory default. See if you connect at a full 1gbps. If you don't then there's a physical issue (cables, nics, defective router). If you do connect at a full 1gpbs, then you screwed the settings up somewhere Netgear is going to make you do the same thing, so might as well cross it off the list. Full factory reset. No cheating.
  9. What specific make/model is your router? Probably unrelated, but I have a funny suspicion you're QoS'ing the TCP/UDP port and not the physical port on the back of your router. I'd be surprised if that forced you down to 100mbps, but worth checking. Turn off your QoS.
  10. Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in? ps, how positive are you that you can QoS a specific physical connection port on your router?
  11. Resolution: get this ankle working again and get back into crossfit 5x/week and complete tough mudder portland in august 2014. I've got another 2 months of gimping before the wheel is fixed, though. Don't expect many fitness updates until then
  12. Holy crap they use twitter "It's easier to use than that CMS."
  13. According to his ex's lawyers, half of that laugh should be credited to her.
  14. Try disabling it before you install the other stuff, might be a simple fix If you're setting QoS by protocol, that's not surprising, especially if you're using the default protocol/service types. AFAIK, you need to set MAC address-based QoS rules to limit bandwidth to a specific device. You may be able to do this in your WRT-54g settings (Application and Gaming -> QoS -> MAC Device Priority).
  15. It's not just any roller, it's the NOVA TKC-8 Knee Cruiser. That thing behind it is a VW Passat TDI...roughly half the price of the A6 TDI. As far as the spinners go, I've been eyeing these things pretty hard: That's right. Streamers WITH spinners. Kapow.
  16. sometimes when people write things over here, i miss it and have no idea what they're talking about. why do you that?
  17. This should be specific to that model... Go to Applications and Gaming Click QoS tab (last tab) Go into MAC Device Priority Get the MAC addresses of the devices you want to limit (don't forget about phones and tablets). Set those to the lowest priority Set yours to the highest priority It's not a true bandwidth speed cap, but it should take care of what you're looking for. If it doesn't, you could install the tomato firmware on your WRT and then set some specific QoS rules.
  18. Are you sure your current router doesn't support this? It's typically in the QoS section, which is usually somewhere in an advanced tab. Once you find that, look for anything that is MAC address related. You can throttle bandwidth there. Post up what router you have and I'll dig through the manual. I've got some free time for the next few days...
  19. Pronounced So-bah'-kah as well, not Se-. Sebaka may sound similar but is wrong. Yea if youre sober. Yeah, because Russians are known for their sobriety.
  20. If you guys notice $8.5k missing out of the gc slush fund, IT WAS NOT ME.
  21. Did you enjoy the movie that everyone thinks your name was derived from? Honestly i did not. I liked the character of The Dude a lot, but the fat guy whose name i forget just annoyed me to no end. But it had some really good scenes (with the funeral, the bowling Jesus, ...) so i get the whole cult classic status it got. MFW
