This this this. Vitamin D deficiencies are linked to a wide varieties of illness (mostly bone health) but also including and most important to me, depression. Seriously consider a high daily intake of vitamin D before getting on SSRIs (especially in the winter), many therapists and psychologists completely gloss over the importance of maintaining your vitamin D levels and go straight for the hard stuff. Cod liver oil, also amazing. Make sure they're natural sources, usually being vitamin D3 is a good sign they are (not sure if synthetic D3 is possible). I actually ran the meeting for the OHA (Ontario Health Association) where they announced the ratification of the previous 400 IU/day recommendation for vitamin D intake, most useful information from any event I've ever done.
