  1. Busrt fire feature? You mean manual, or is there a button I can push to turn that feature on? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Glock has a burst-fire; same as the FAMAS (except still as weak as the Glock).
  2. Anyone else find that CS is a lot easier with no pants? It may just be the chair I've got at home, I'll have to report back when I get back to the dorms and have a keyboard tray to work with. I find that with a corded mouse it can be helpful to find a good position for the cord (making a long loop ~200 degrees to the left works for me) so as to get minimum resistance moving it in any direction. I have to agree with the drink, just make sure to keep it away from the mouse. I like to keep it on the left side, that way I can drink and still shoot if necessary. In all seriousness though, the most important thing seems to be not just to aim, but to take the time to aim. As far as the mouse goes I'd move to an optical if you're using a ball mouse, but I don't know how much difference there is between a high-end mouse like the MX518 and a more basic Logitech you can get for $15 or less (I use the latter). Don't take my serious comments too seriously though, because I'm not even good. The unserious comments I'm mostly serious about though. --mookie
  3. This is a pretty good looking rotation to me, my only suggestion might be that if those first six maps are going to be repeated three times in the rotation they may as well be shuffled around (i.e. three different orders), but maybe some people prefer having some regularity to the mapcycle, or that some maps play better after others. Personally I'd rather not be thinking "right now is map X, so map Y must be next, because it always is." --mookie P.S. As far as people ditching at night when de_dust comes up, I'd say that's going to happen with some map no matter what the rotation is. Usually when I'm playing later than I should I'll drop out the first time a map comes up I don't feel like playing, which at 2:30am might be half the maps on a good mapcycle.
  4. I'd like to see another go at de_port just for variety. The only thing I don't like about the map is the abuse of sniper rifles (on both sides) so as far as I'm concerned scopeless is perfect for it. I also agree with anonymo that the CTs can reach the boat before the Ts, the only thing that usually stops them are AWPs coming from T spawn across the entire middle of the map. --mookie
  5. Four thousand nine hundred seventy-six.
  6. I was playing on map night last night, and at one point someone (a GC member) asked how to do something (IIRC facetiously, e.g. "What button do you press for headshots?"). Myself and someone else (another GC member IIRC) both suggested the answer was F10, at which point an admin said that was against the rules (not trying to get anyone in trouble or allege misconduct, no action was taken). I would certainly agree that trying to get someone to press F10 is not conduct that GC should tolerate, but in my own defense there were 20 or more GC members in the server at the time, and I think all the rest of the players were regulars. Anyway the point is that I later took another look at the GC standards (the one you see by mousing over "Join") (thinking I'd missed something or forgotten), and there really isn't anything there that would address this kind of thing. If there's a more exhaustive set of rules somewhere else, please let me know. So my question is, are F10 jokes right out, or is it only a problem if someone is actually trying to trick a noob into quitting the game? --mookie Edit: I should also note that the admin involved only warned the other player, whom he said had already been warned before on the subject. This is probably the only reason it was even brought up in the first place.
  7. Server played well all last night during mapnight (can't say the same for my wireless router) even overfilled with players (server sometimes showed 27/27). It was a real GC-fest in there too, at points the server was full with 20+ GC and a few reg pubbers. I just wonder about Saris' comments on registration, if he really was losing bullets his skill ranking will probably go to 12000 or more now --mookie
  8. Just played for a little while with anonymo and the ping was great for me. Always under 30, dropping down sometimes around 22. Never got more than 4 players though, so we'll have to see how it does under stress. Can't wait to get on from UMass, we've got a 300mbps pipe straight to NYC. --mookie
  9. I have to agree with TheBugs on this one. If the Ts establish a good DD rush the game can be balanced or even tip in their favor. The problem is really the same as on de_dust: usually half the Ts or more are too afraid to follow the rest of their team, so the better half of the players usually get killed fast while the other half sits around and camps. --mookie
  10. Looks like a good choice to me. I used to have a Ford Probe and have test driven a few later Probes, and I must say I've been very impressed with Mazda's I4 engines. IMO way better than their V6s. Now if only all the Ford parts hadn't broken... --mookie
  11. Nice try but that one's a pansy automatic. --mookie
  12. I'd also like to see de_train in the rotation, but if it's already been taken out for good reason (I don't know if it ever was there) then there's no reason to put it back. If I had to guess I'd say de_train usually favoured CT a little, but my experience is that it's reasonably balanced. If you haven't played cs_haste you should check it out, I think it's in the rotation right now. --mookie

    Fun Server

Is that 4pm CST or 4pm CDT? Now this is getting really confusing. --mookie
  14. If those pics don't work for anyone else, please do send me a PM about it. I just set up that site and I'm interested to know why it might work for some people and not for others. --mookie EDIT: I think the problem here is blogspot preventing cross-loading of the images. If anyone can confirm this please send me a PM. You work around cross-loading by loading up the site the pictures are from (mookie-gc.blogspot.com), and if doing that then allows the images to show when you reload the posts then that is the problem. Obviously if blogspot doesn't allow cross-loading then it's pretty useless for hosting pictures, and you can ignore my previous post regarding that.
  15. I'd like to see de_prodigy in the rotation, unless it's already been there and tossed before I started playing GC servers. In the games I've played on it, it favoured the CTs but not as much as some maps like de_dust. Another one worth looking at might be cs_twilight. I used to play in a server that played this map from time to time, and sometimes it did turn into a camp-fest for the Ts. But given that there is stronger teamplay in GC servers than in the server I've played this map in, I think it would be worth looking at. --mookie P.S. I second cs_haste for the rotation.
  16. Anyway while I'm at it I may as well post up the two ancient screenshots I've got, because everyone loves a good 'nading. Ok so these aren't that impressive or funny, but I impressed myself with the first one (a sad fact). --mookie
  17. If you want another way to host pics besides photobucket, try just making a page on blogger. I set one up the other day (mookie-gc.blogspot.com) to see how it would work for hosting pics and it seems good enough for that purpose. If anyone wants to see the template I made for that I'll be glad to PM it or post it. --mookie
  18. That sounds nice Saris. Anyway for some of us going back to school will make playing CS easier. I for one will be glad to ditch the cable modem via wireless for that sweet sweet ethernet. --mookie
  19. Brillow you're probably thinking of muting someone for all players (i.e. gagging). I'm pretty sure that I've muted people before, but what I'm talking about is muting them on my PC only. --mookie
  20. I've been wondering, how much does the FSB speed of your CPU matter for performance (Source in particular)? My machine has a 3.066GHz w/ 533MHz FSB, and my brother's has a 2.4GHz w/ 800MHz FSB, and the biggest difference I've noticed is that his machine switches in and out of CS:S a lot faster than mine. On a related note, does anyone know offhand if your CPU FSB effects the operating speed of your RAM? As stated above my FSB is 533MHz, but my PC3200 RAM is running at 333MHz and the mobo won't let me change it higher (mobo does support DDR400). --mookie
  21. I don't think this has anything to do with your friends list, since I don't have anyone on my friends list (I don't even know how to use it) and it still shows some players with a friends name and some without. --mookie
  22. I was playing in a non-GC server the other day, and someone started spamming the mic on my team. Of course there was not an admin around, so I tried to mute the player, only to find out that I couldn't! In fact, I discovered that I couldn't mute any player at all that didn't have a name in the "friends name" (not sure exactly what this was called) column of the player list. When I came back to a GC server (which was pretty much immediately) I checked and found the same thing there so I know it isn't server-related. Has CS:S always been this way and I just never noticed before? Is there some option in CS:S/Steam to change so I can mute anyone I want? --mookie
  23. Maybe someone bad enough to be worth taking the time to ask for a ban? --mookie
  24. I agree and disagree with Saris on this. My experience with cs_assault since it's been put in the cycle is that it favours the Ts heavily, about as much as de_dust favours the CTs. Some times that I've played this map it's such a camp-fest that time runs out before 10 wins, even though the game is relatively lopsided. That said, I think both cs_assault and de_dust are playable, and could be at least competitive if GC members were to actively help balancing the teams. In particular, scopeless is IMO the best chance for cs_assault to be playable, since I'd expect AWPs and autosnipers to encourage more camping. I can understand wanting to get rid of maps that consistently favour one side, and I wouldn't mind seeing cs_assault go much myself, but at the same time I'd hate so see maps disappear just because they go one way most of the time. --mookie
