  1. w00t! I just heard that it was a rumor and Sony denied it.
  2. It will crash or freeze if it gets too hot too fast, but otherwise, the CPU will start throttling down the speed to reduce heat, which equals slower performance. THEN it will freeze or crash! Nonetheless, I agree with all others; save off your data to a DVD-R or CD-R, then reformat. If you don't already have an SP2 install disk, you may want to build your own slipstreamed SP2 install disk yourself
  3. As if that weren't enough, here some more reason to be hating on the PS3: Sony is going to make second-hand game sales illegal for the PS3 via licensing restrictions. I guess the whole BMG fiasco taught them nothing...
  4. The CPU being clogged with dust might cause this though. Firefights are really more about the CPU, memory and networking anyhow... I think. maybe...
  5. How did we fit 1000, or even 900 responses on one page? That's what I get for responding without really reading the other responses...
  6. I thought the proper method of raising boys, was you stick 'em in a barrel and feed them through the bunghole. When they reach their teen years, you decide whether to open the barrel, or cork the bunghole. I got that saying from reading Robert Heinlein. I don't know where he got it.
  7. What is the name of that new CPU cooler that uses heatpipes and has a really big fan for ultraquiet operation? Ah yes! this one!
  8. What firewall are you using? I had worse choke when I used ZoneAlarm, and am doing much better now that I just use Windows Firewall.
  9. The people fighting for our country are just that; people, with all the range of good/bad/annoying as any other people.
  10. Well the flashlights are recharged now, on the blood-parasite-infected server, so I'm happy! (I did finally get around to googling what recrudescence means)
  11. I just use ZipGenius. It's free and it unzips 7z as well as many other formats.
  12. No console FPS can compete with Crysis! (Interesting fact: Even the trees in Crysis has their own AI scripting, so that they react to your movement and shooting realistically) Though after watching all the game trailers on gametrailers.com, I grew to feel that all the FPS games were just one FPS game with different titles and different monster art. While some just didn't like it, most people who played the Wii said the controller while difficult to get used to initially, was great, once you get used to it. Nintendo may not have the best looking games out there, but they sure have the fun-factor nailed down! They're trying to be the console for new gamers who haven't played a game console, rather than the console fanatics, anyhow. All that, and I feel that folks have gone off the deep end, in their slavish pursuit of graphics glory, and that we've reached the point of diminishing returns on how much graphics can add to a game. *disengaging rant mode* ... . . . *rant mode, disengaged!* I hear that Intel had a Conroe/Merom showing there? Any of you check that out? Did they have working systems to play with?
  13. I'd probably just end up playing super swing golf pangya and that tennis/baseball/golf three-pack, if I got a Wii. I'll stick to the PC, like the folks at CryTek do...
  14. I've died at least a dozen times on several maps, just because I couldn't use a flashlight to light up a dark corner...
  15. The reviews were good, but I wouldn't know. I have nothing mobile to run it on...
  16. DoomRPG! Soon to be joined by Orcs and Elves...
  17. The question that immediately pops into mind is: How do you know this? And who was your poor victim?
  18. By more exercise do you mean more hand/arm crampings? I mean . I don't know about the hand cramping, and there will be force feedback as well as on-controller sound for feedback cues using the controller, and more than one way to hold it .
  19. Yeah, they are saying that the Wii will be significantly less than PS3, and a little less than the 360. It won't be near as powerful, but is supposed to have very innovative gameplay with that funky controller. Power is overrated sometimes. The Red Sword demo looked good enough, and the gameplay for tennis, golf, and FISHING! (yay!) looked great! Also, all that reduced power will equal "Easier to develop for" with no complicated scheduling of threads for multiple processors, or having to deal with branchless slave processors. So the games should be cheaper as well.
  20. I love the sound of afterburners in the morning! This had better be true, since we live next to an airport where the former McDonnell Douglas used to train foreign pilots on Harriers and F-18s. We had one test pilot, who was practicing for a foreign airshow, crash into a house when he did a maneuver too low, and bottomed out in someone's house, killing the pilot, and a resident, if I remember right. Those things will wake you up, when they go right over your house no more than a few hundred feet over your head. The pets don't know where to run, to hide from the sound! While that was a free airshow, I preferred when the WW-II aircraft would stop by for a showing, and a free ride, if you could pony up the cash! B-17, B29, a Mitchell bomber, and a Heinkle bomber, as well as a Mustang, Messerschmitt and a Thunderbolt. Edit: The German planes were remarkably more cramped on the interior than the American planes. Pity this all stopped since the Airport director (kind of related to me, in a divorced in-law kind of way!) was convicted of dipping into the till, and doing questionable business deals. Now nothing fun ever happens here anymore. At most, we get the Air National Guard Medical Airlift guys occasionally practicing short-field landings here, and now even they are all busy over in Iraq.
  21. Interesting that it took them so long to figure out that the only way to do donuts in a front-wheel-drive car was by going backwards. The music was about as well matched to the video as would be a video of old people shuffling through a nursing home to the tune of Ozzie Ozbourne's Crazy Train... and you found the snowball game more mind-numbing than this? *gets pelted by Ebil Bunny Dust Storm summoning*
  22. Our kids will definitely get more excercise with the Wii than with any other console, except for those with DDR controllers, I think...
  23. I think the original game is in German, but even so, the voice acting is worse than a bad anime dub... At least Dungeon Siege II's voice acting is so hammily over-the-top that it's campy and fun. This games acting just ... bleh. I notice that many of the metal boxes (the ones with the beveled corners), barrels, and textures are rip-offs from Doom 3, which along with the lighting, make me think this is running on some form of the Doom engine. They need to work on the game launcher too. There's no need for a simple dialog box to be that laggy. Still, the gameplay can get intense toward the end, which kind of makes up for it. Take No Prisoners is STILL better than this game though, even with it's dated graphics. I'd still play that game, if it weren't for the DirectX mouse-lag issue, which all early DX games suffered from.
  24. Screw that... I still play my super nintendo and I bought that like 15 years ago. and I still play Final Fantasy 8 on an old dinosaur of a Playstation (classic) that's just about on it's last legs. We can all get by with older computers too, if we just stick to older games... This is what I plan to do.
