  1. isn't it easier to just get on a plane? driving that distance with a sports suspension will give u cramps in the buttocks.
  2. A week? I banned someone on day TWO for using no-clip hax.
  3. Another reason this happens is when you hit the button to get the menu's when dead, e.g., Auto-Director, etc...u know..the menus on the bottom that let u mouse select the view mode and stuff. Well, there seems to be a glitch where you don't see this menu but in fact, it is there. So, any commands won't let you do anything, like switch player views, etc. I believe that if you hit the key and puts you in and out of this mode, it will fix the problem. Sorry for being vague, but i noticed this was happening to me yesterday so i only have a vague way of fixing it.
  4. Make a copy of your config.cfg to a different backup area. Delete the config.cfg. Launch CS and it will create a new one with all the defaults. Commence to customize video, sound and keymap.
  5. Yes. Logging out and logging in works 14% of the time. Giving your screen a stern disapproving glare as you do it will increase your changes by 15% making it a total 29% that it will work.
  6. I find that if you yell at your computer really loud while giving it disapproving looks, it will connect.
  7. If you end up not being able to move or talk while dead when playing 1.6 Countercrap, do the following: go to console (you should still be able to go to console) and type "exec config.cfg" without the quotes. For some reason, a bunch of your binds get erased from memory and you are unable to talk or move while dead.
  8. I would if I could somehow justify my bill rate to do programming. I remember when I was running a development team a couple of years ago, I'd always give myself a few modules to code, just for the hell of it. It not only keeps me on my toes regarding technology, but the team seems to appreciate me more when they see me struggle with the same pains they experience on a day to day basis. But I think they found it funny when I was bouncin my head up and down to trance beats while I was coding. lol.
  9. programming to trance music is definitely one of my past times. It kinda puts u in a zone and you just type away. I miss those days. I haven't programmed in a while.
  10. The audience he's trying to attract are DJ's who typically only buy vinyl. A CD-only format would nail a coffin in his track before it is even released.
  11. Oh, tell your friend to keep at it. There are very few DJ/Producers out there that have a strong following that are under the age of 25-30. Only a handful actually come to mind. Most are actually in their 30's and 40's. So he has a lot of time to fine tune his skills and find something unique that he can identify with. Since he already has production skills at such an early age, I wouldnt be surprised if he truly did develop into something big in the coming years. And lastly, hear are some interesting tracks that you might like if you like the happy melodic stuff (I don't like that stuff too much but these are better by most standards) 2 Players - Pitch & Shela <--- deep yet uplifting 2 Players - Signet (Leama & Moor Remix) <---- laid back and melodic John Askew - Skylab (Kyau & Albert Remix) <---- energetic Hiver & Hammer - 5 Million Miles (Alya Remix) <--- uberhappy Midtone - Pearl <--- melodic Sonorous - Second Sun (Leama & Moor Remix) <--- chillout Oh...btw, Leama & Moor produces some of the most soothing trance music. It's pretty atmospheric. Nothing you can really dance to but good to chill to if you are into that kinda thing. They are on Paul Oakenfold's label and have a pretty distinct sound. I get their tracks on sight.
  12. I listened to one track. I'm going to be brutally honest because I've become critical of the whole genre lately. To give you a little background, I've been listening to this genre of music for the past 16 years, before trance is what you would consider trance today. So I guess I'm as good as the next guy to review this stuff. I think the whole genre took a downturn when it became overpopularized by mainstream media within europe and in some parts of the US. The reason I say this is that the music produced these days in trance/house/techno have become formulaic. Put in 64 beats, add in a chime for the next 64, then add the melody but only the first 16 beats worth, then drop the beats at the 2 minute mark so only the melody is heard, then do a buildup of riffs and make the melody louder and louder as you introduce the beat again and then play the entire body of the melody over some stronger beats as you end it off. I just described 75% of the trance music out there. I don't know what happened but it appears everyone is recirculating the same exact samples and its just being reprocessed into something that is only slightly different that the original. I think your friend's tracks falls into this category. I'll admit, that its soothing and cleanly produced but it sounds like just another trance song and undoubtedly he will sell some records if he decides to press it to vinyl but will it become a standout in a crate full of records? That i'm not too sure about. If you follow DJ culture at all you'll notice that the most famous of DJ's have a particular sound. So if you walk into a club, you immediately know that PvD is playing vs Tiesto vs Sasha. Successful producers produce music that is unique to their own personal style. They don't follow someone else. When you hear a PvD produced track, you immediately say "hmm, that sounds like PvD". I think your friend is missing that identity. When I heard the first track (the melodic one), I immediately thought..hmm...sounds like Airwave or Rank 1. The second track was more like Nu-Nrg. I think to be successful, ones reaction to a new track should be "whoa...that sounds fresh...something new". That's the only way to truly succeed, especially in this dying genre where the scene is pretty much dying a slow death. I've been chasing this identity for years. I'm slowly starting to develop one. I have a specific sound, close to PvD and Tiesto but not exactly but if someone heard a set of mine, I don't think they'd say "wow, that sounds like something new...fresh.". I think their reaction would be...hmm...sounds different from what I heard before, but I can definitely pinpoint his influences. I'm still learning the ropes I guess. As of right now, I no longer DJ and I just mix tracks at home so its really only a pipe dream so I guess this is all moot. And lastly, my review of the actual song itself, whether I like it or not wouldn't be fair. I listen to tracks with more drive to them and I like my music dark yet having energy. The happy, overly melodic stuff doesn't do it for me so I guess my tastes and your friends taste doesn't match. What your friend should do is post his song on http://www.tranceaddict.com It is the de facto standard site for testing your music in public. I hope I didn't bring you down, I'm just being honest. And in the end, it's just one person's opinion. ========= EDIT: Upon reading this again, I feel I was being too critical. Read my follow up post below. =========
  13. He's talking about people who exploit a bug in the shield that makes you invincible from most angles, even if you have your gun out. So basically, 1 CT exploiting the bug can wipe out the entire T team. The other thing is that if used in combos with the nades, it has potential to crash the server.
  14. There's the shield bug, where ppl have been exploiting it like crazy. Shield is disabled on infinity and I recommend that it is disabled on all servers until they figure it out
  15. Hmm, in a map like say Aztec, the T's will be dead after every round. Do the T respawn with the shield if they had it the previous round? Point being, I remember playing MCCIII on aztec and a few cal matches on aztec. It will be nearly impossible to win as a T with the riot shield unless the skill level on the T side greatly outweighs the skill on the CT side. It doesn't really matter. All I'm saying is that the CT's got an extra item that compromises team balance and I believe team balance do be a huuuuge deal. We already have to deal with map imbalances, now we have to add CT/T imbalances.
  16. I agree with Rev, the game is now imbalanced due to the shield. I heard a rumor that CAL is banning the shield for league play, if this is true, I guess Rev and I aren't the only ones thinking the shield causes imbalance. Think about it for maps like de_aztec, which is completely a CT map. Toss in a couple of riot shields and it'll be a wonder if T's can win a round during league play.
  17. I dont think this is much different that any other version of CS. Did they add any new maps? The changes to some of the maps is a nice touch. But what is bothersome is the lack of recoil on the new weapons. The way I see it, the AK is lacking value considering the defender is a pretty nice gun that has zero recoil. I think they are trying to get the weapons more "newbie" friendly. The way the game looks is a bit different, it takes time to get used to it. All in all, I didn't think it was that much different. I guess the best way to guage that is that I stopped playing after about 30 minutes. It definitely isn't something that'll give me a surge of CS interest all of a sudden. Pros: - Shield adds new dimension to the game - New menu system is incredibly good. - New map touches are nice Cons: - T's should have been given a shield as well. An extra item of that sort will probably give the CT's an extra advantage over T's, on any map once ppl starting understanding how its used. - Gameplay (movement and animation seems to have went backwards) - no recoil rifles == spray headshots; less cool firefights since they seem to end much quicker now (minus the shield).
  18. Here's a picture I found on my hard drive. I don't know where I got it, but I found it so I'm posting it I remember the days after it all happened. I used to walk past this Armoury, where the authorities told was the place to file a missing person report. In the days after, people swarmed the place to file their reports. As the days when by, people started posting pictures of their missing loved ones on the walls of the Armoury. It continued until all of the walls on all sides was covered with pictures of people. It's eerie in a way, but as I walked by, I started to recognize and remember the faces and even the faces of those who slept on the steps of the armoury for days waiting for a report. It was a strange time. Everything changed about the city and the world that day. NYers have a reputation for being independent, rude and unfriendly. We don't say hello or thank you, or even recognize your existence except to yell at you when you get in our way or slow down traffic. Things changed in all of us that day. I see people waving and talking to each other since then. We talk to our firemen, our police officers and even to each other. We have united in a way that I never thought would happen, not only in NY but around the country. We let go of our differences for a change and had a common respect for each other. I have found wisdom from this experience and I have found heroes. The wisdom to recognize that although we may all be different and have our conflicting viewpoints, we all are bound by the same feelings of respect, love and humanity. And the heroes in our neighbors, policemen, firemen and our troops that fight relentlessly for our protection and well being. Some say its easy to forget the good and only remember the bad. But no, I won't forget neither the good nor bad from this and I hope you don't either. Here's a picture I took while flying around in my friends plane. It's remarkable how much was done by the ground zero crew in just a couple of months.
  19. My view on RAM is as follows, yes it can make a noticeable performance difference from the best to the worst. But if you got something decent from a decent company, casual users won't ever notice. As long as its a reputable company, you'll be fine. Also, given that RAM is so cheap these days, almost anything will do.
  20. Goot, to to www.nvidia.com and look up information on their soundcards in the nforce2 chipset. SoundStorm i think is the name. A lot of ppl don't like onboard sound. I find this one to be at least as good as an SB Live card. Keep that in mind. If you want something better, you might want to forego the onboard sound and get a cheaper Asus board (but stick with nforce2)
  21. Go to www.pcprogress.com and use their configurator to spec it out. I'd use $550 to $600 from their configurator since you can get the parts elsewhere and only spend $500. It's a cool utility that'll get you going and create a basket with the parts you need. I just upgraded to an AMD XP 2600+, 512MB DDR RAM (333Mhz Dual Channel), the best AMD motherboard out at the time (Asus nforce2 deluxe - comes with usb2, firewire, 2 network ports and a sound card) for under $300. Add a cool case, a power supply and you're in the ballpark area. You probably can get better than what I have now for less since it was a few months ago that I upgraded. Here's what I would buy. It's a simple setup, nothing too fancy and it should suffice for all of your needs for some time. ATHLON XP 2700+ SOCKET A (333Mhz BUS) WITH QUANTISPEED ~$130 Asus ASA7N8XDEL Motherboard (Comes with USB2.0, FireWire, Serial ATA, 2 Network cards and 3D Sound) $125.00 2 Corsair CMX256A-3200LLPT Memory Chips XMS3200 (400MHZ BUS) 256MB LOW LATENCY DDR 32X64 ~$75 each for a total of $150 That's $405. That leaves you $95 for case and power supply. Most places have free shipping lately. ================================ Some reasons why I chose these parts: AMD 2700+ - AMD has great price/performance ratio. Although, I'd AVOID the AMD 2500+ Barton CPU. There's a really good reason why they are cheap. They are sometimes much slower than AMD 2100+ in some instances. The FSB of 400mhz is not taken advantage of by the low clock speed. I know you can overclock them but since you are a newbie, I'd highly recommend AGAINST overclocking. Keep it simple, use it for what you paid for. There are plenty of sites that have produced bad results with the AMD 2500+ Barton. Do a google search and you'll find dozens. Asus motherboard - Asus consistently produces the most stable and reliable motherboards on the market. They also cost the most. This is because they are the premier motherboard manufacturer on the planet. Think about it, the motherboard is the most important piece of the system. Everything relies on it. That's why I choose only the most stable and reliable. Asus wins that title every time. Also, this motherboard comes with 2 network cards, a kick donkey sound card and USB2 and FireWire. Great stuff. RAM - Get 512MB. Get 2 256MB Chips so you can run them dual channel. 256MB is simply NOT enough these days. There is a significant difference when I'm using 256 vs 512, especially for games. RAM is cheap, buy plenty.
  22. What's the big deal? I think its kinda cool. What about it don't you like? An upgrade from the current version to the next is inevitable. It's going to happen all the time so we adjust and move on. I still think 1.3 was the best version but it didn't mean I didn't play 1.4 and 1.5. Same thing applies for 1.6. I also think the steam network is convenient and will be better for the game.
  23. good luck to you man. I always find that confidence makes the man. When yur confident, it makes you that much more upstanding to everyone around you. Figure out what makes you feel better and see how you can elevate that.
