  1. I bought my wife this one in 2006: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16882714001 It is a great picture frame. Exceeded expectations. Has an internal battery which is rare (or was). Looks like newegg has only 3 from this company now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....amp;srchInDesc=

    turkey day

I do a fried turkey for Thanksgiving, and another for Christmas (although this year we're roasting for Thanksgiving and frying for Christmas). Mix equal parts of white wine and strained italian dressing and inject it all over. Make a rub with salt, cayenne, and pepper (although I think this really just makes the oil dirty). Fry away. Followed up with the frying of 2-3 sliced potatoes to clarify the oil for storage. The best part of a fried turkey is the breast. In most that I've made, the rest can get overdone. Not sure if tying it all together more tightly, or what, would make the darker meat better.
  3. Depending on which version of Vista you have, you can "downgrade" to XP pro if you have the right disc (a holograph system builder disc is what I've used for a couple of downgrades in the office). We downgraded Vista Business without issues on 2 machines this way and are in compliance with the license. See http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/f...erencesheet.pdf

    To Germany!!!

So I found out today that an attorney in my office building went to Germany for a week to buy a car from the manufacturer (not sure what yet). Apparently this was arranged by a local dealership. They go to the country where the car is made, drive it around a few days, then have it shipped back to the States. The awkward part - it's supposedly cheaper than buying the same car here by a few grand. Not a lot when talking about luxury cars, but nothing to sneeze at, and certainly worth the "hassle" of a free trip to Europe. Anyone heard of this?
  6. Hire an attorney...they're fantastic people!!

    Heroes...

It's certainly lost something. Haven't quite figured it out, but the dialogue just seems rushed and predictable. Like a good story told by the wrong person. Commercials every 2 minutes in the last 20 is also a drainer. Still intriguing though. I'd like to say I'd stop watching, but I can't. It's like Lost.
  8. Anyone have more specifics on the "downgrade"? I've read that with a Vista Business license also comes the license to use XP Pro instead. However, there are varying reports of how you can install XP pro; some say with site licensed software, some say retail, and another said computer builder's "holograph" install disk (is that the same as these OEMs you buy from Newegg?) In any case you are to install with whatever XP license (supposedly) and then call Microsoft to activate instead of doing it online. Law firm in my building bought new computer and old software just won't work with it. So I get the nod to get it working, legally that is. Just wondering if anyone's actually done it and called MS.
  9. STEAM_0:1:13767 is now unbanned (Hope that's chen). Keep that stuff in the political asylum please. Noone should need to be muted. FK said the rest.
  10. I did this. Not even sure where to begin. Sleep whatever it is off.
  11. So I'm looking at upgrading the office network with something like this: http://www.esecuritytogo.com/ProductInfo.a...EAR-SG565-12-US which provides VPN, Wireless, Network printing and storage all in one. Currently I'm running a netopia dsl router and it looks like it connects to AT&T via PPPoE (I've no clue if this is correct, but that's where you put in the u-name and p-word). The router linked above says it has "PPPE (for ADSL supprt)", but it doesn't have any RJ11 jacks, just a WAN connector and 4 LAN ports (all RJ45). I'm aware that RJ11 can plug right into a RJ45 port without problems. The question is, will I be able to completely eliminate the netopia router and just connect using the new router?? Anyone done this? Seems like it should be simple. Just would like to pare it down to 1 piece of equipment.
  12. From last year: http://www.gamrs.co/forums/in...p;hl=what+bring
  13. We'll be at the hotel tomorrow around 5, so I guess the plans will be for an Akron Zoo trip on Saturday. My wife's car seats 7, so they'll be room for 4 others. Wife is asking me if the Akron Zoo allows coolers to be brought in (and, no, not for beer).
  14. My wife will be tagging along this year along with our two kids. She is planning a trip to the akron or cleveland zoo on Saturday with the kids and wanted me to post this as an FYI in case others might be interested.
  15. Here's a link to the Aastra 57i CT http://www.aastra.com/cps/rde/xchg/SID-3D8...s.xsl/19700.htm Looks to be some variation of DECT that is used for the cordless handset. It's around $300. It's going to be what is used to work from home. The 942's seemed to have a lot of features and were relatively cheap ($125/ea. shipped). They work well for what I'm doing.
  16. Just an update as to what I did: Originally followed the nerdvittles installation with PBX in a flash. Worked ok, just so much fluff that didn't seem necessary and slowed it down on my P4 1.6 with 768mb ram. So I dumped PBX in a flash and built from ground up. Used CentOS 5.2 bare bones install then used these guides to get asterisk running (not without a few hitches) along with an asterisk gui: http://www.asteriskguru.com/tutorials/aste...ion_centos.html http://jangestre.wordpress.com/2007/06/07/hello-world/ http://www.asteriskguru.com/tutorials/asterisk_gui.html Got a card for around $125 for 2 lines of POTS to plug in (this card with 2 fxo modules): http://www.tspire.com/servlet/the-2103/ZMA...ALOG-PCI/Detail Signed up for VoIP lines from http://www.inphonex.com and http://www.callwithus.com to have some VoIP lines to test. Can't believe how cheap that was. Using two Linksys SPA942 phones (which are pretty cool I must say). Going to get a Aastra 57i CT also (for a cordless phone). All in all, it works pretty well. Will go into actual use this week. Only one issue left to resolve, and that is that the computer randomly shuts down. It used to do the same when I ran linux on it for a web server, so I'm guessing it's some hardware conflict. As a backup until the random shutdown is resolved, I've got Centos 5.2 with Asterisk running on a VPS in Chicago through http://www.bodhost.com Hope that's helpful to anyone else considering this.
  17. Thanks for the links! Unfortunately none of those have datacenters in Chicago. Thought it would be simple given that's where a lot of gaming servers are.
  18. I've got a Godaddy VDS and it works fine for webhosting. However, would like something in Chicago for better pings for a possible VoIP system. Anyone have suggestions for a company to go with for a VDS in Chicago? I'm trying to avoid a fly by night company as my office website would be hosted there.
  19. Thank you SJ! Very useful stuff there.
  20. Bought a couple HDs to swap out in my main computer to install a test Asterisk server to tinker with. Haven't got it installed yet as I'm getting errors on install. Would use a p4 1.6ghz with 768mb ram (my current office dinosaur) as the Asterisk server assuming this is the solution and just upgrade my office computer.
  21. My line runs into the building and into a nortel system which connects all the phones in the building (mine and about 40 other phones). I'm the last "slot" in that system meaning I can't get any more lines, and either way it won't let me have a phone at home. It's $125/month with the phone line and internet service with a dedicated IP. I'm looking at going to 2-3 lines. On another note, I've figured out the type of card to connect the POTS line to the computer, the Digium 410 series. Range from $260-$500 depending on echo cancellation and what FXO/FXS modules are on it. The more I'm looking though, the more I may just go toward not going the POTS line route.
  22. Right now I have just a standard telephone line coming into the office which connects to the buildings phone system (a dinosaur that's probably 20+ years old). The analog telephone adapters I thought were necessary to connect the POTS line to the computer. I could switch over to a VoIP business service, but it would actually cost more per month. I was thinking there should be a way to connect my POTS line to an asterisk computer and run a VoIP system myself. It's getting the POTS line into the computer that's confusing due to the varying costs of PCI cards.
  23. I'm looking into phone systems and this has to be one of the most confusing things in the world. I'm trying to set up a 2 line office phone that also has an extension at my home that acts as if it's connected to the main system (via the internet of course). I'd like to be able to answer calls at either location and intercom b/w the locations. I've looked at Asterisk which seems to do it, but the hardware needed??? Analog telephone adapters are needed, but they range from $60 to $1,000+. Anyone done this and have any advice?
  24. Not really interested in a third party connection like gotomypc or logmein for the reason that dweezil says. SJ, I've got a WRT54G (actually a few of them) but all v.6 or v.8 which I'm not sure if there's a way to use VPN on these versions (they're 2mb flash versions which only take the "micro" flash). I thought I was going to be able to in buying these routers, but it doesn't seem possible.
