  1. they're not bad boards i just sell them to customers cause they're cheaper. they seem pretty solid for the most part but they don't perform worth a damn. preacher, the 8237 southbridge is EXTREMELY outdated. what does adaptive overclocking do? i'm not familiar with it. my guess is it ups the fsb or maybe tightens some system timings. without a locked agp/pci bus you won't be able to get any decent overclocking numbers... if you had problems with an asus nf2 then it was most likely the board or it wasn't revision 2. that's when 200fsb was possible. those boards were rock solid.
  2. hahahaha a letter after it. that's so jokes. i remember getting the kt400 and then hearing about the kt400a coming out and kicking myself cause it was supposed to support 200fsb. guess what. it never did. after that i went with an nf7-s and never looked back. i still buy kt6 boards for customers but never for myself or anyone i care about.
  3. pft via blows. they fell off back when nf2 came out and smoked them. there's maybe 4 boards there that aren't via. out of the nf3 boards there i'd take the msi. the asus is via. DO NOT BUY VIA. they don't lock the agp/pci buses and the chipsets/specs are inferior to the nf3 boards.
  4. bothrops, where i buy my stuff they only have 2 939 nf3 boards. both gigabyte. all the rest are nf4 and therefore pcie. they have abit, asus, msi, gigabyte, dfi nf4 boards. so what they carry is not the reason they don't have many. abit never even made a 939 nf3 board. nor did dfi i believe. i have a s754 setup and it runs cs quite awesome with my agp card. he is goin for the cheapest upgrade. what use is it buying a 939 board so you can get dual core when you still have a 9800pro holding you back?
  5. still sounds like a power supply or harddrive issue. it 100% isn't the chipset. have you tried formatting the entire drive and installing windows fresh with newest drivers? have you tried updating to the latest bios? btw, you could test the drive with ANY other sata system. i guarantee you that getting a new cpu and mobo will not fix the problem unless it is software related... which it very well could be.
  6. lcds can't touch crts yet. almost every review SPECIFICALLY states this fact. shazzz, vsync is in the video options, advanced in cs:s. you want to enable "wait for vertical sync".
  7. there is no illegal software used so i don't see how this could be illegal. it's just like overclocking a cpu. manufacturer won't support it but they allow you the choice. btw, can you find me a way to turn my xp pro into x64 pro? hehe.
  8. the reason i suggest sticking to s754 is because there are VERY FEW s939 mobos out there that are not pci-e mobos. the differences between s754 and s939w/o pci-e are negligable. he is on a pretty tight budget here guys. all 3 of those last solutions are 50-100 dollars more than what he has selected.
  9. shazzz, as i said i'm running at 100Hz so crt is fine on my eyes. maybe your refresh wasn't set right. btw, another tip. with an lcd you definately want vsync on in game.
  10. looks like a good upgrade to me. you won't notice a huge gain but then again you're not spending much money. did you eliminate the power supply as the possible cause of the stuttering? i would recommend solving that problem before upgrading. you don't want to be spending money in vain.
  11. nofx, that's why i bought this. plus the refurbed price was 172cdn after taxes. http://support.jp.dell.com/docs/monitors/p...glish/specs.htm there's the specs of my monitor. i run windows desktop at 1600x1200 @ 100Hz.
  12. i find just unstalling using the ati uninstaller in add/remove does a fine job. when windows loads back up just hit cancel on the popups and then run the new driver installer.
  13. i hope you guys all uninstall the old drivers before installing new ones. btw, at 1280x960(the res i run at) i'm completely cpu limited with my x800xt pe and all the details at lowest possible settings. in aztec when looking water from b my fps drops to 40ish when there's lots of action. anyway, the reason i mention this is that if you're looking for performance increases you shouldn't look to seriously at the drivers and rather look more seriously at a) making sure you have a clean install with nothing in the background running and upgrading your mobo/ram/cpu. oh yea and zd i drove by the ati offices this evening while i was in markham going to a korean bbq. hehe. i love driving past ati.
  14. what are you switching from? good luck. i am really interested in this cause i shied away from an lcd when i just bought my new(refurbed) 21inch crt.
  15. if the sensors are the problem then what is the question you are asking? check your amount of thermal paste. you should only have a very thin layer if using something like as3 or as5 or as ceramique. also, you could try updating your bios. you probably can't go over for many reasons. i'm shocked you are at 267 using a via chipset. is it the k8t 890? head over to www.ocforums.com and read up.
  16. just noticed on cs nation that cpl mill has been beta released for source. any chance of getting it in the map rotation?
  17. lol they might require changing backplates as well. i can recommend any of the thermalright heatsinks.
  18. lol. i'm using a pc power & cooling 510w deluxe sli power supply. a 430w antec "should" be enough for your system. am i correct in assuming you're not overclocking? either way your power supply could be defective or maybe just worn out. if your system is locking up then it's gotta be the power supply or the harddrive.
  19. lemme guess. you have a prescott... lol sucker. anyway yea water cooling is gonna help obviously. draw backs include leaks, weight, if you move your pc a lot. might have to disconnect it altogether if you move your pc depending on the kit. main reasons i don't have water cooling is price, i move my comp a fair amount, and my psu is the loudest thing in my case and it's not goin anywhere. plus my load temps are 44c with a64 @ 2.4ghz.
  20. sounds like it's your powersupply. best way to test this is to swap yours with someone elses and see if it still stutters. if it's not the powersupply then rma the harddrive. survey answer below: 2 sata 120gig maxtor diamond max plus 9s in raid 0, msi k8n neo mobo with nf3 chipset
  21. if you'd never pointed it out i'd have never noticed it. i've become so accustomed to the style of those ads that i just subconsciously avoid them i guess.
  22. cl_rate no longer exists with the most recent update.
  23. it really does. system always seems much smoother with a fresh install. i probably reformat every 3-4 months or so.
  24. i've not heard of such a command for cs. have you tried steam forums?
