  1. Unfortunately I don't remember, Laz specced it out and all the components are at his place. If I remember correctly, it is an ABit motherboard of some kind, and I know it's an AMD Athlon 64, I think a 3200+ specifically. So, I know it's the socket 754 (?) little mini-socket thing. I might actually remember it if I saw a picture, but I can't do that right now...I'm behind at work and I need to finish some other things. If I catch up I'll look at some pics on newegg (I'm pretty sure that's where it was ordered from). Laz, help me out.
  2. I tried all of the drivers at the Windows startup, and even tried loading them all (because you can specify multiple drivers) for kicks. I don't think it's the drivers, but we can check the manufacturer's site later. I can't remember all the options in the BIOS, but I remember there were far more bells and whistles than I had ever seen before (!) so we'll get back together once we get the motherboard model #.
  3. Homer, this is a fresh install. Everything right out of the box. We tried the F6 at Windows startup with the motherboard floppy provided. The drivers didn't do anything for us, unfortunately. I was browsing some forums and had a thought...What should the BIOS be set to for boot order? We also know the hard drives are connected and working...I checked all the plugs, they were fine, reseated them anyway, and managed to get into the RAID configuration utility -- They are both reported by the MB as happy and healthy. N.B. we're not trying to RAID them, but I figured that would diagnose a bad drive (It could happen...) Laz, you'll have to give the specs...I don't remember exactly what all we're working with...We might be conflicting with the DVD on the IDE controller. P.S. Thanks homey
  4. Heh, laz, I just read a forum about a sister motherboard and the same hard drives, and they resolved the problem...by returning the SATA HDs and getting IDEs... But let's consider that an option later.
  5. I've set one of those up for someone, it seemed really good and I haven't been called back yet...No nudes is good nudes. er, news! news! But anyway, it seemed really slick. That's a great price, too!
  6. Apparently I got hit with backweb-7681197 yesterday on some install. I noticed this morning my domain profile would not load and my cookies index.dat file (used by the domain) either had incorrect permissions set or was "in use". Knowing the permissions were right I did some sleuthing, found out it was backweb and eliminated it. The problem is I didn't really do anything yesterday except install factory media and a windows update. The factory media were for Microsoft Office 2k (which I've never had problems with before) and a software add-on for one of our GIS programs (which I actually installed on a terminal server from my CD drive, but it shows no signs of problems). Our office has been hit with a Windows installer virus before, but I wonder if I'm missing anything that somebody knows specifically about the backweb variant I had? -----------EDIT--------------- On further study it appears to be part of F-Secure's Internet Protection 2004, a virus protection program with firewall, etc. It is a really poor antivirus program but it is what the University gives us for free (a.k.a. better than no antivirus) so we're stuck with it. The Backweb variant here is so that F-Secure can stream antivirus information and keep people up-to-date with antivirus tickers. Pretty much useless information because it's reactive...We won't find out until it's too late. So, it's legit, but unecessary...I'm rolling back to an old F-Secure version right now. *sigh* I hate cheap software.
  7. It's my first SATA hard drive, too...Man, those things are so quiet, it's amazing. My computer is on the desk next to me, and the only reason I can hear it now is because I'm installing software off of a CD. But yeah, the best part is sound. Definitely.
  8. I got a new computer at work! With a working sound card! I can actually listen to music at work now, yippee!!! I'm writing this post from it, happy!
  9. A three-legged dog walks into the bar, goes up to the bartender and says, "Have you seen the man who shot my paw?" (Say it out loud with Old Western accent)
  10. Added to the prayer list, and I'm glad we have a place for this on the board.
  11. Louis Appalachian Fox XL My coffeemaker will not be coming with me. She doesn't make me coffee anyway. Always something about being broke...
  12. I have this long, islandy bit of land that I might be willing to trade...but you'd have to throw in a couple of guns and smallpox-infested blankets.
  13. Speaking totally out of ignorance... Is there a DoD server?
  14. Hitman (from way earlier, holy crow leave the boards for 24 hours...), I do pronounce it day-ta and can't stand the daddah pronunciation. Well, I can, but the little vein in my forehead starts throbbing...
  15. True that, I stole a friend's account when he wasn't using it Neither of us played enough to justify needing one account and an extra character was cheap (or maybe even free back then)...He could justify paying for it, tho, so he paid for the account and I, like, bought him lunch or something. It worked out. But it is a darn great game.
  16. Gratz on the new house! How many rooms will be computer rooms? Trub, you and Watch aren't amateur radio operators by chance, are you?
  17. I used to play Gemstone 3, best MUD evah, and I believe the original Gemstone was one of those games you could play on AOL waaay back in the day (before unlimited access, of course). Speaking of fun games, for the trader in you AOL also had Federation (www.ibgames.com). $12 a month (not worth it IMO) but it was a fun game esp. while it was free...Fed2 is in beta right now, free access, and I've been having fun with it. The problem is the game doesn't get good until you've made a couple of ranks (the game gets really great when you get your own planet!), the start is slow and the beta only goes so far now...So the best stuff isn't play-testable (or they're not going to play-test it...). But if you remember Fed, swing by for a few rounds. But if you're looking for best MUD evah, Gemstone.
