Wireless Router
random_n00b replied to Sir Shertown Pimp's topic in Tech Reviews, Support and PC Builds
Figuring you mean this one, one of my friends has the not-wireless version of that router. He uses it just for Xbox and an old PC, says it locks up once a month or so (remember to upgrade the firmware or it'll lock up a lot more), but otherwise it's pretty good. Pretty nice range of setup options on it too, and certainly looks cooler than the Linksys. ...but I can't say beans about its wireless ability. -
Go download XP SP2 from Microsoft; they've got bandwidth to burn!

FlashGet can do it if the website lets you (but a lot of them don't). You'd be looking for the "Site Explorer" somewhere in the program's menus. -
Wireless Router
random_n00b replied to Sir Shertown Pimp's topic in Tech Reviews, Support and PC Builds
It really depends on the router itself. I've personally used Linksys's Wireless G router and know it has really good range and never drops the connection (even with a few walls between), but I've used some awfully pitiful wireless routers as well (packet loss, bad transfer rates, etc). If you can, buy it from someplace like Future Shop or Best Buy so that if it sucks you can always return it. -
THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT

Missed out on most of Aztec (BeetlesMod got the best of me, and then CS crashed), but yeah; good games! -
Mayhem Mapcycle Discussion
random_n00b replied to Fatty's topic in Midwest FF CS:S - Scopeless - PROJECT MAYHEM - Chicago
Piransi would be great, but I think that map would really benefit from allowing the semi-scoped weapons. Even without though, it's presence would be nice. Prodigy (if it's the map where the terrorists spawn in a room with a traincar) would be a nice addition. I like the vents - they remind me of the old beach map in Return to Castle Wolfenstein (which I played a lot, as it was the only good online shooter that my old Celeron 400MHz could play decently). Office is a map I don't mind, but wouldn't miss if it disappeared. Aztec, on the other hand, is a must. I love that map - it's the only dust-like map that isn't dust. Even if I suck at it. Tides is nice to look at, but that's about it. I guess it can stay on the mapvote list if someone really wants to play it. (Speaking of which, why is mapvote only on once in a while?) Now what we really need are more maps with the "funpower" of dust2. That map is awesome. ...and what possible use could this smily have? --> It's downright creepy. -
7 for me, and four of those are just in my local ISP. If somehow Allstream (my ISP's ISP, based in Toronto) could get some better ping times (I lose ~40 ping on that link), I'd be a very happy person.

Absolutely GG. Still though, I'd never been quite so confused in this game as when team switch was called, and I didn't realize that the switching had to be done manually ...and then frantically pushing buttons to try and find the menu for it while everyone screams "spy!" -

Smackdown Movie!

Hey, that was great! Now, I want to see a good slow-mo of (I think it was the second round after the circle of death) those awesome grenades that took down pretty much the whole the terrorist team when they rushed B. I actually laughed when I saw those in the demos - I hit pause and counted something like three nades on the screen all flying straight for a hall full of t's. Priceless! -

Is this open to non GC people? If so, count me in! -
That definately sounds like a bad disc. Check it for scratches or greasy fingerprints. If it's not an authentic-from-Microsoft disc as well, then it could've been a bad burn and you might want to try copying your authentic disc again.

mobo

100 Ping might be pushing it a little. Around here in Winnipeg, Canada, pretty much all of the Internet connections to USA servers go through Toronto first, and that isn't terribly kind on the ping times. I usually get around 75ms on Mobo, but Cuffo lands me something like 120ms. I think a bandwidth limit might be more appropriate - if you can't receive at least 10KB/s then out you go! I'd figure that the server having to throttle output to fit 56kbps is a big cause of lag. BTW: anybody know why players sporadically say "GAMERSCOALITION.COM"? (not on voice - the type area) Are they actually doing this, or is the server putting words in their mouths? -

Oh yeah, dial-up users. They wouldn't be so bad if it was just them who warped about, but whenever there's one around, the game plays like we're ALL on dial-up. Lag for one and lag for all! -
I do sort of miss the whole "strategy" thing on Primeval, but it's still the only map where you can take out the Scorpion and remove the heads of four guys hopelessly trying to charge the middle node. Actually, I think the only truly bad thing about Primeval is how even if your team manages to hold the central node for a few minutes, it's a lot of work to get to the other team's core unless you happen to find a Manta laying around. That means a lot of rounds ending in OT, and just too much Primeval as a result.

Did you pubbers notice?

With the amount of practice going on, 6th rung is well deserved. I swear it's every night that the mysterious "webadmin" appears, shines the batsignal into the sky, and off /-=GC=-/ goes! -
A7N8X-X doesn't have the soundstorm chip (I'd know - I have that mobo. Plus Asus says so.) but it's still a pretty good sound mixer. I didn't notice any performance difference when using it, but I still use my SBLive because of the almighty kX drivers.

radeon 9800xt sparkles and texture issue
random_n00b replied to Xoul's topic in Tech Reviews, Support and PC Builds
Thirty six bucks! I just rewired the measly 60mm fan that came with my AthlonXP to run at 7v and attached it to a K'nex (like Lego, but better) frame which is duct-taped to the case and kinda holds the fan below the video card (it was easier than actually attaching it to the video card). And that's just because the fan that came from Sapphire was too stinkin' loud. Actually, along with my dead-PSU-fan case coolers, 92mm fan for my 80mm cpu heatsink, cut 'n' taped wires everywehre, and foam/rubber/packaging tape mounted hard disk, it's a wonder why I don't get myself a case window! My computer: a disaster I'm proud of.
