admin input plz?(esp Fatty)

After discussing this with M2, he suggested I post the situation here and get your advice.

 

Lately, several regs have thought that I am an admin. For I while I told them Im not. But recently, I just say nothing at all.

 

I have seen in chat things like "dude, stop swearing.Laz is an admin and you'll get banned". I dont respond to things like this at all. What I WILL do, is after a while, if there is a prob, do the same thing I have always done: put into chat their steam id with a request to stop or they might get banned,or "gc bans for that man better stop", or jsut the id and request.

 

Often, its effective. Sometimes it isnt.

Point of Note: I have NEVER said I was, or inferred, that I am an admin. If someone asks, I jsut dont answer at all lately.

 

If there is a real problem, I generally chat-type "Console?...", wait,xfire admins that are on it at the time, wait, then post in forums, wait, then pm, wait, then give up ( last time I posted for a ban it took two days I think for a response lol).

 

It has seemed to help when there are no admins actaully around. And chatting something like the id and the request is a LOT faster than going thru all the above steps, and hopefully fixes a prob before anybody even NEEDs to be banned/kicked/etc...I think that is a good thing.

It seems to be pretty effective when somebody else types in "Laz, will you ban XXXX for tking and spawnflashing?"...they often stop! Or " Laz will you kick somebody?"...instead of answering directly I would ask "whats wrong?"...if its a cheat Id spectate, get an admin if needed with the above steps, or maybe just do the steam id-request thing if its something small like porn sprays, a couple tw's, swearing and filter dodging, etc.....all this assuming there really ISNT an admin around.

 

So thats where I would like some input. As long as I am Always honest (or at least not respond at all), and NEVER EVER infer that I am an admin, is this a bad thing?

 

Or, worst case scenario...bind a key to "Im NOT and admin quit buggin me" lol?

 

Im not being Totally honest cuz I dont deny/reply at all directly to it anymore. But I dont lie either and it seems to have some positive results.

 

So, whatcha all think?

In my opinion *dont know the exact ruling on it* it is ok if they think your an admin because it helps them keep it clean.

 

Only bad thing that could happen is that someone gets really out of hand and then you cant do anything about it, then they ruin the server.

 

Just dont tell them your an admin(because you cant back it up if something happens) but if they think you are then i guess no harm no foul in my opinion, keeps them in line.

If I cant back it and they ruin the server, that would mean there isnt an admin there anyway so I have to go get one like I would normally do. In those really bad cases, I dont even try, I just go thru the "get the big guys" steps.

O joy! So, instead of jsut giving little warnings and trying to help n stuff, I can like leave the game in the middle of my best run to have to go to the other server and ban some jerk? Or while Im watching a good movie I hear Xfires popping up from that annoying Laz guy asking for bans? Ill pass atm Maybe someday after I make the big move here and I have more time and $.

 

Im not trying for an admin app here, just dont want to be doing anything "wrong" or UNhelpful.

 

I envisioned a PM from Fatty sometime down the road saying he's heard others refering to me as an admin and if he finds out Im impersonating one Im banned or something....avoiding that scenario.

Laz I know exactly what you're talking about.

 

The same thing has happened to me on several (not a lot, just more than a few) occasions. Usually the same situation where someone is being a jerk or causing problems and someone sees the gc tag on my name and that I'm the only one in so they ask me to ban them.

 

Like you, I've never been quite sure what to say. Should I ask "what's the problem" or yes I am or no I'm not? Sometimes I just outright say I'm not an admin.

 

Usually I tell them that the server has rules and ask them politely to follow them. Sometimes they stop the trouble or leave, sometimes not. If the problem persists I will see if any of the admins are online and not busy. If they aren't I ask them to take a quick look at the server.

 

Fortunately this has only happened a very few times, but I really hate to bother guys like this, always feels like I'm bugging them. Makes me feel like I'm treating the admins like the Police or something.

 

I guess I feel like as long as you don't lie to them and tell them you are an admin, it isn't a problem. Asking them to follow the rules is something anyone can do. You don't need to threaten them.
