i hate my back

stutters

Recommended Posts

john, 2 years ago I fractured T 7 in 2 places,  I sit at my job to, sometimes for 12hours at a time in a chair that shakes and vibrates bad (locomotive).  You need to get to a Dr, and get him to refer you to a specialist, (neurosurgeon).  Did you have mri and catscans after injury? did you have surgery?

i had the all you can eat buffet of pain killers while i was in the ER. things are a little fuzzy, and i can't remember if the tube i went into was an mri or cat scan. i had great insurane at the time, and the best treatment they recommended was wearing a custom brace/cast. i wore that for either 8 or 12 weeks with xrays every other week. they never recommended or even mentioned surgery. they did mention physical therapy, but only if i was gonna be lazy about my recovery. they gave me a few excercises to keep in mind, and i did my own rehab at the gym. like i said, it's been good for about a year now.

i just got off the phone with one of my managers. they're still trying to work with our benefits company to get something going for me, but i also have to consider the reality i could be doing this leg of it uninsured. yikes. you know when your foots been asleep, just before you regain full feeling there is that tingling sensation? i've had it for 2 (going on 3) full days.

any at home remedies? i'm taking a max dose of alleve, but that's about it.

alleve -> 2x220mg, twice a day with food. i shoulda thought to harass you first, duke. in addition, i'm having muscle spasms deep in my left glut (only). any over the counter meds to check?

i just got an email from work. administaff (our outsourced HR/benefit company) is holding firm on denying my benefits. paperwork wasn't executed according to procedure. somehow that gets the IRS involved, and their hands are tied...until june of 06. schweet.

Make sure you take it with food and watch for possible GI bleeding (standard legal blah, blah).

Nothing is available over the counter that will help for muscle spasms. Actually there are a couple things out there but are minimally effective at best. Alternate heat & ice at this point. Ice to reduce the swelling and heat to open up those blood vessels to let the body do it's thing.

Tingling is * a concern*. Get in to see a doc as soon as you can.

finally leverged with work to get my benefits approved and backdated. although i've been seeing a chiropractor religiously, i'll be seeing my first real doctor friday afternoon. :luxhello:

i still have tingling and numbness down my leg, but i've kinda gotten used to it. the pain is still constant and makes itself known if i move too quick or in the wrong direction. regardless, i've missed most of my classes over the past week, and cancelled most of my client (sales) appointments. :boo:

If you can't make it to class, at least go talk to the professors about what's going on. You'd be amazed at how lenient and helpful they will be if you just let them in on teh problem up front.

When I lost my eye, not only did they help me search for it, they made accomidations for me to take tests when my ride could get me there and also moved some homework dates around for me.

when you lost your what and your what? i'll misplace my keys or wallet, but usually keep my organs pretty well attached...

i learned how to draw empathy from the teachers when i did my back the first time. i've had 98% cooperation, but ran into that one professor with a phd who felt his lectures rivaled the word of god. since i couldn't attend them live (a friend even offered to videotape the lectures), he forced me to drop the class with a w on my record.

From Jr. High through High school I raced BMX. I had a nice little track setup in the back yard and would train rigorously everyday for at least 4 hours (even there was snow on the ground). One day in April when I was 15 I decided I wanted to be like Dave Mira and start practicing heli can cans and no handers (stuff like that). To make a long story short I went to pull off my second no hander and was about 6’ in the air and my feet slipped off from my pedals and I landed square on the crown of my head. I managed to get a 20% compression fracture to my 7th cervical. I couldn’t breath real well because I pinched the nerves that go to my lungs. It felt like the wind was knocked out of me for 12 hours (not fun). Thank god my sister and mom were home. I remember when the ambulance showed up and put me on oxygen, that was a huge relief. I used to do stuff like this when no one was around, and no I never wore a helmet either.

Spent the night in the hospital and was on my bike again (not jumping) in less than a week. The doctor told me to take a month off but I had a race coming up. I ended up placing first in the state that year but I’m paying for it today. It’s more of the t and l area, not the c area of the spine that bothers me.

Moral of the story, take care of yourself. I know I’m screwed when I get into my 40’s.
