in my opinion this is hard core wigger music. half of 50's music dosnt hardly even make any since so whats the point. personally i dont respect bands in which no one can play any instruments. anyone can sing anyone can rap but can anyone play guitar like santana? now thats tallent.

S.S.

If anyone can rap why don't you just go out and sell a million CD's of you rapping. What's that???? You can't???????? Maybe you should rethink that statement because rap DOES IN FACT require talent.

The problem is, the rap industry is so deluted with garbage that the real talent is tough to notice.

Here's my take on Rap music.

I think that it has definitely gone downhill. I used to spin hip-hop music for a few years back when I was in high school and the sound was still "fresh" back then. These days, I think too many ppl jumped on the bandwagon and it has really diluted the talent pool. There are trendsetters, like Dr Dre, Tribe Called Quest, even Eminem, but there are way too many "wannabes" and followers who lack talent and are just there to cash out on the hip-hop boom. After a while, the followers all sound the same while the trendsetters are always breaking new ground.

But the process is cyclical. It happens in all genre's of music. I think its happening to hip hop now. It happened in the 80's with the "hair" bands, now its happening to hip hop, boy-band and trance music.

Here's something I always go by -

Music is meant to invoke emotion. Any emotion. But if you only listen to what is popular (follower music), you never really feel that the music is personal. If you dig a little deeper and find some of the more obscure artists, you will find that having known an artist and their work and embraced it w/o having known that it was popular beforehand is a pretty liberating experience.

Try it. Look for a new artist to listen to every month. You'll find that there's a lot out there to like.

I agree wholeheartedly DJ. If you only listen to what they play on the radio, then your cultural growth is going to be severely stunted by the sheer volume of talentless hacks out there that are basically stars of the marketing world. If you want to hear good music, college is a great place to start.. maybe even other countries if you think of lyrics as more of an instrument than anything... a good portion of my songs on Winamp are in Japanese, Chinese, French, German and Thai. You've got to look around, don't fall into the record companies' traps. I haven't turned my radio in my room on in two years, and I've heard so much great music because of it.. give it a try sometime. :)

Let me say this. If these musicians and "artists" continue to spew their political views in public, I will continue to not listen to their music, regardless of talent.

i realize that nappy roots dosnt play there own instruments but for a non instrumental band i think they are better then 50. and actually i can rap right along with the fastest songs out there. even just free rap along with the beat. (thats somthing to put on a resume ) :) and all i was saying about people not playing there own instuments is that 80 percent of wether you like a song the first time you hear it is the beat and the instuments. cause usually the first time you dont really get all the words. but to be able to play an instument and play it good enought to impress what you are feeling upon the listeners is something magical. to be able to set a mood and make a person feel whatever you want em to without ever saying a word is an awsome feeling. i feel that music loses most of its substance when noone is playing instuments. but thats just my opinion. ill shut up now :)

Not a fan of acapella music I'd wager - personally, I think that is (or at least can be - has the potential therein to be) more impressive than music + vocals.

That is an interesting statement.

You mean that when no one is playing an instrument, SOME TRACKS lose some of their substance? I hope so.

I sometimes listen to music that has 2 things in it. A beat and a short repeated melody that shifts in key and note and I find that it has a lot of substance that songs with guitar, bass, drums and vocals.

A song can have lots of substance with only a person's voice and nothing else. It is the delivery of the song that creates the substance, not a particular instrument or group of instruments.

[Verse #1]These ideas are nightmares for white parents

Whose worst fear is a child with dyed hair and who likes earrings

Like whatever they say has no bearing

Its so scary in a house that allows no swearing

To see him walking around with his headphones blaring

Alone in his own zone, cold and he dont care

He's a problem child, what bothers him all comes out

When he talks about his truckin' dad walkin out

Cos he hates him so bad that he blocks him out

But if he ever saw him again, he'd prolly knock him out

His thoughts are whacked, he's mad so he's talkin' back

Talkin black, brainwashed from rock and rap

He sags his pants, 2 rags and a stocking cap

His step-father hit him so he socked him back

And broke his nose, this house is a broken home

There's no control, he just lets his emotions go

Come on...

[Chorus:]

Sing with me, sing for the year

Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear

Sing with me,just for today

Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

[Verse #2]

Entertainment is changing, intertwine it with gansters

In the land of the killers, a sinner's mind is a sanctum

Only you're unholy, only have one homey

Only this gun, lonely, cuz don't anyone know me

But everybody just feels like they can relate

I guess words are a mothertrucker, they can be great

Or they can degrate, or even worse, they can teach hate

Its like kids hang on every single statement we make

Like they worship us, plus all the stores ship us platinum

Now how the truck did this metamorphasis happen?

From standin' on corners and porches just rappin'

To havin' a fortune, no more kissin' donkey

But then these critics crucify you, journalists try to burn you

Fans turn on you, attorney's all gonna turn it to

To get their hands on every dime you have

They want you to lose your mind every time you mad

So they can try to make you out to look like a loose canon

You need to spew, dont hesitate to produce air-guns

Thats why these prosecutors wanna convict me

Swiftly just to get me offa these streets quickly

But all their kids been listen'n to me religiously

So i'm signing cds while police fingerprint me

They're for the judges daughter, but his grudge is against me

If i'm such a truckin' menace, this poop doesnt make sense, Pete

It's all political, if my music is literal and i'm a criminal,

How the truck can i raise a little girl?

I couldn't. i wouldn't be fit to

You're full of poop too, Guerrera, that was a fist that hit you!

[Chorus]

[Verse #3]

They say music can alter moods and talk to you

But can it load a gun for you and rooster it too?

Well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude

Just tell the judge it was my fault, and i'll get sued

See what these kids do, is hear about us toting pistols

And they want to get one, cos they think the poop's cool

Not knowin' we're really just protectin' ourselves

We're entertainers, of course this poop's affecting our sales

You ignoramus. but music is reflection of self

We just explain it, and then we get our cheques in the mail

It's trucked up ain't it, how we can come from practically nothin'

To bein' able to have any truckin' thing that we wanted

It's why we sing for these kids that don't have a thing

Except for a dream and a trucking rap magazine

Who post pinup pictures on their walls all day long

Idolise their favourite rappers and know all they songs

Or for anyone who's ever been through poop in they lives

So they sit and they cry at night, wishing they die

Till they throw on a rap record, and they sit and they vibe

We're nothing to you, but we're the truckin' poop in their eyes

That's why we sieze the moment, and try to freeze it and own it

Squeeze it and hold it, 'cos we consider these minutes golden

And maybe they'll admit it when we're gone

Just let our spirits live on, through out lyrics that you hear in our songs

And we can

[Chorus]

[Chorus Without Beat]

[instrumental]
