Cujo May 16, 2006 Share Cujo Member May 16, 2006 the northbridge is probably under the heatsink you are talking about.
Wolfsblood May 16, 2006 Share Wolfsblood Member May 16, 2006 Yup. That combined with the southbridge comprise the Chipset (Via, nVidia ATi, etc.) which allows your processor to talk to the ram, and the various components to talk to each other. Cobalt May 16, 2006 Share Cobalt Member May 16, 2006 Normally it is about 2 inches away from the bottom right of the processor mount at a 45 degree angle. IE, Processor Mount lower right corner _| North Bridge It is generally somewhere around that area and then the southbridge is below that. Most motherboards come with a NB that is already cooled. Cobalt May 16, 2006 Share Cobalt Member May 16, 2006 Unless you plan on watercooling whatever one came there is fine. If yours broke then just get on the motherboard manufacturer's website and order one.

Cobalt May 17, 2006 Share Cobalt Member May 17, 2006 If you are going to do overclocking you can upgrade the cooling on your NB but if your fan just stopped working then you can just replace it with stock.
