Hitman September 7, 2002 Share Hitman Member September 7, 2002 Server IP address 66.188.128.174:27015 Could not get IPX socket name, IPX disabled Reason: WSAENOTSOCK Connecting to 64.94.11.82:27015... Trying to authenticate with WON servers The server requires that you be validated through WON.net. Could not obtain WON authentication. Does anyone have any info about this error? It seems to be affecting a lot of people I've talked to.

Guest Orbital September 7, 2002 Share Guest Orbital Guests September 7, 2002 Okay, I know why this happens. It's a STUPID glitch in the coding for HL. It happens to just about everyone, try doing these few steps: One, GO back to the first screen of Counter-Strike [Keep pressing "DONE."] Then Go back and try and connect. If that doesn't work, restart Counter-Strike and try it. If that fails, try and restart your computer.. It's a stupid coding glitch that happens in HL, it makes it seem that your key is in use, when in fact it isn't. It's just a stupid protocol bug they'll hopefully fix, if this doesn't work. Ask me, and I'll see what else I can do for you . Oh, instead of puttin "-noipx" in your command line, go to your NETWORK PROPERTIES button on your DESKTOP, and go to your connection [i.e. Adapter for your modem] and right-click it, Go to properities, and ADD PROTOCOL. ADD a IPX protocol, it is better for CS, it won't hurt. With an IPX protocol. It's faster then just bypassing the protocal through your command line. So HAVING a IPX protocol is better. DJ Premier September 7, 2002 Share DJ Premier Member September 7, 2002 Actually, CS loads a little faster and enters server a little faster because it doesn't have to detect if IPX is available. If you specify noipx, it doesn't bother doing the check so joining a server can be a little bit faster.

Guest Orbital September 8, 2002 Share Guest Orbital Guests September 8, 2002 I've noticed lag improvoment, becuause it runs through the protocol, that's why I say. I don't care about a 1/2 a second more lag, for a better improment in ping and lag. That's just me.
