Mr. Bad Sleep Well October 15, 2006 Share Mr. Bad Sleep Well Member October 15, 2006 (edited) Hey guys i am building a new computer and I am an amature at this. My first and only PC was this: Mobo: ? CPU: P4 1.7Ghz Case: Dell Deminsion 8100 Memory: RDRAM PC800 384Mb Hard drive: 40 Gigs CD-DVD: DVD Burner Lite On DL DRIVE 16X Floppy: ? Video Card: GeForce 4 mx Keyboard and mouse: Default Dell Keyboard and Logitech Cord Ball mouse, model M-S48 Speakers: Altec Lansing 4.1 (but only use 2 of them) Operating System: MS-WINDOWS XP HOME SP2 Monitor: Viewsonic VX992 19" LCD 2MS The new system that I have is: Mobo: ECS KN1 SLI Lite CPU: AMD X2 4600+ Dual core Case: ? Memory: PC 3200 1 GB Dual PSU: Ultra 500w (I know its cheap.. $10) Hard drive: 40 Gigs CD-DVD: DVD Burner Lite On DL DRIVE 16X Floppy: same one Video Card: EVGA 7600 gt Keyboard and mouse: Default Dell Keyboard and Logitech G7 laser mouse Speakers: Altec Lansing 4.1 (but only use 2 of them) Operating System: MS-WINDOWS XP HOME SP2 Monitor: Viewsonic VX992 19" LCD 2MS gtg and btw So, my old case from dell is ATX and the new stuff is atx but because it is dell i need to "jerry" rig the new PSU and back side ports for the motherboard. I dont know anything really about cases or the needs to keep my new hardware cool so any input is important. I just wanted a cheap case that will function, looks are not important. So, any ideas? Yeah, although the components of my new comp are not the greatest money was the dominent factor and it is light years beyond my RDRAM monstrousity from 2001. Kruten October 15, 2006 Share Kruten Member October 15, 2006 (edited) Oohhh it must be soo horrible on that dell. All the stuff on the new rig looks good, though I would go with an Core 2 Duo instead. dragonfly October 16, 2006 Share dragonfly Member October 16, 2006 If you have the room, get a ThermalTake armour. I LOVE mine!!! PLENTY of room to build, and a nice looking side, GREAT cooling, and no annoying front door (if you find those annoying like me).
Tek-Almighty October 16, 2006 Share Tek-Almighty Member October 16, 2006 (edited) What kind of $$$ are you willing to spend? That is major issue. I have a few VERY NICE recommendations... I say the cooler master stacker 830 or the Antec Performance I P180 or the Lian Li PC-7B that's off the top of my head in 30 seconds... All are cases I've used (or their counterparts) and they are solid, good cooling, highly expandable, etc... Mr. Bad Sleep Well October 16, 2006 Author Share Mr. Bad Sleep Well Member October 16, 2006 (edited) I need it for under 100 shipped, it can be ugly as sin as long as it is functional. And Thanks guys for all the great suggestions, by the end of the week my new rig should be up and running and I will see ya on immutable Edited October 16, 2006 by Mr. Bad Sleep Well
Cujo October 16, 2006 Share Cujo Member October 16, 2006 (edited) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811129155 this is the best case with power supply for the money. i assumed you needed a power supply cause you didn't list one. it's definately worth the 20 bucks over 100. it's REALLY quiet and the psu to boot is a bargain. I added it to the original post after your post.
Cujo October 16, 2006 Share Cujo Member October 16, 2006 then any case with 120mm fans for under 100 should be fine. antec makes a couple other ones without psus for about 60 bucks. they use rubber gromets on the hdd mounts for queitness. also, they typically come with nice antec 120mm fans. 10 bucks for a 500w is still a great deal. even generic 500w is usually 20+. it should run that system just fine as your components are not high consuming parts. I had $17 left on a gift card and it cost dirt cheap after that. Its funny, I wired it all up today and after 2 hours of struggling (never build a pc before) it is purring. Half life 2 never looked so good (until now I never could play it unless all settings were on minimums)!
