Wanting to buy a 360, wait a month or so

Xbox 360 Elite: new, black limited edition Xbox with HDMI and 120GB drive

 

We've confirmed with trusted sources that the black Xbox 360 is indeed coming (the image above is of the original 360 dev kit, FYI), and will be dubbed the Xbox 360 Elite. Here's what you need to know about it:

 

* The Elite will be limited quantities only; that may be as much or as little as a couple hundred thousand.

* The case, controller, and Live headset will all be black. It will have all new packaging.

* Elite will cost $479, and will be a 3rd SKU; it will be sold alongside Premium and Core packs.

* Eventually Elite hardware (in white plastics) will take the role of the Xbox Premium. That is to say, after the Elite is launched and sold out, future Xbox Premiums will have 120GB / HDMI.

* We do not yet know exactly when 120GB / HDMI will become the standard for Premium, but it is loosely estimated to be late summer or fall.

* Elite models run cooler than normal 360s, but they are not yet confirmed to have 65nm chips.

* Prices may remain the same with the 120GB / HDMI hardware upgrade in the Premium Xbox, but we may still see a price cut on the line when 65nm chips start shipping.

* The HD DVD drive will not be internal or bundled -- Microsoft never did or nor does not currently have plans to put an HD DVD drive in the 360.

* There are no current plans to integrate WiFi into the Elite or future Premiums (although that can always change).

 

They should really throw a HD DVD player into it, and then they would win the battle (not like they are not right now)

 

But I want an HDDVD player or a Blu Ray

They left out HD-DVD to allow everyone to buy a 360 without worrying which next-gen coaster wins the DVD Wars.

 

Smart move imo.

 

It also keeps it cheaper.

but if they sell this for 479, a ps3 with blu ray is 499, not really keeping it to much cheaper. but the ps3 would only have 20gb

Microsoft has been making a lot of good moves recently with the 360. I too am glad that the "next-gen" dvd option isn't built in (yet), so when one of the formats finally becomes a standard I can just get an external accessory that hooks right up. I'm starting to wonder if Sony will ever catch up with the ps3.

Where is sony losing the race other than games? You have to remember, Sony is younger in there game stage than 360

yeah i was referring to the games thing, but its a BIG difference between the two right now. Sony has already lost several PS "exclusives" that I did not see happening. the entry price for the 60GB version (config of choice for most, I'm guessing) is still pretty high, although it does include wireless, blueray, etc. and the 360 doesn't (although the next-gen player might be too early to want to have it IN the system atm).

 

Every month Sony spends getting their games list better and working with developers to use their new processor design is another month that MS is grabbing more market share. I hope they get their act together in the coming year, I am fan of the PS!

 

Oh, and if anyone wants to sell me a nintendo wii for $50, let me know

That black 360 is pretty sexy. I wonder when the 360 price will come down... Its been out long enough that a price decrease should be around the corner, but then again the system is selling so well that they dont need to lower the price.

T_T everyone is going the into this ipod scheme update their console ever two years or what not T_T... i dunno i don't want a black one it won't match my nintendo wii.
