ZeroDamage April 4, 2009 Share ZeroDamage Member April 4, 2009 Now in progress. Following this tutorial: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Apple/?p=3258&tag=rbxccnbzd1 I currently have the OS X boot screen on my computer. Neat.
ZeroDamage April 4, 2009 Author Share ZeroDamage Member April 4, 2009 The English Selection screen. Taken with the iPhone with poor lighting so the picture did not come out so well.
ZeroDamage April 4, 2009 Author Share ZeroDamage Member April 4, 2009 Here is an image of it installing. I removed all the Language translations and the Printer drivers to free up as much space as possible. The drive is a 16GB SSD with only about 14 available after partitioning. ZeroDamage April 4, 2009 Author Share ZeroDamage Member April 4, 2009 Booooo. Failed at 30 minutes left. Takes several hours to do this so I may just give up with the Mac OS install for now.
ZeroDamage April 4, 2009 Author Share ZeroDamage Member April 4, 2009 Trying again because I have nothing else better to do. I have to say, the Dell Mini 9 is a rugged little netbook. The build quality is much better than that of the Acers, Asuses, and HP's that I've seen and held. The keyboard is actually a size that someone with my normal sized hands can use it comfortably. Dell Laptops tend to be of poor quality but this thing is just nice. Even the touchpad is usable for something so small. If I cannot get the Mac OS to install properly, I will go with the Ubuntu Netbook Remix to see how that runs. The built in Ubuntu version that came with it was okay and run fine but had a lot of Yahoo based stuff and I want to be able to run the latest Open Office on it. ZeroDamage April 4, 2009 Author Share ZeroDamage Member April 4, 2009 SO far so good on the second try. Less than a minute left it says and no error this time. Although from what I've been reading, the error is normal and I could have just kept on originally. Doh!
ZeroDamage April 4, 2009 Author Share ZeroDamage Member April 4, 2009 Hah. It is now installed and up and running. Now I have to remove the apps that I will not use and make as much room as possible for the updates.

Preacher April 5, 2009 Share Preacher Member April 5, 2009 (edited) Have you seen the Christian Version of Umbuntu? I thought it was pretty cool. Edited April 5, 2009 by Preacher
ZeroDamage April 5, 2009 Author Share ZeroDamage Member April 5, 2009 it would not boot up after I did the final step which is install the boot loader to the boot sector of the Mac OS install. It froze or something and I had to hard reboot which probably corrupted it. It was working otherwise and all of the hardware was working as well. I am now running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 beta and it looks amazing and runs great too.

ZeroDamage April 9, 2009 Author Share ZeroDamage Member April 9, 2009 I am trying to do this again but with a different method. There are many different ways of doing this and they are all listed here: http://mydellmini.com/forum/how-to-install...thod-t3925.html

ZeroDamage April 9, 2009 Author Share ZeroDamage Member April 9, 2009 This is the issue that hung me up this afternoon. I am going to give it another go tomorrow or just this weekend in general. http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/syslinux-n...king-t6456.html
ZeroDamage April 10, 2009 Author Share ZeroDamage Member April 10, 2009 I got it working. Had to find an alternative to the syslinux part of the process since it did not work properly for me no matter what machine I used or what USB stick I tried it with. Runs like a charm on 1GB of RAM. I imagine it would run all that much better with 2GB of RAM. Fortunately I have an 8GB SD card in it for some of my apps such as Open Office and others that do not require that I install on the Primary OS Volume
stutters April 10, 2009 Share stutters GC Alumni April 10, 2009 the guy i know is only running tweetdeck and firefox...any other apps he needs, he's using web based tools (google docs, etc).
ZeroDamage April 13, 2009 Author Share ZeroDamage Member April 13, 2009 I am finding Mac OS to be more useful and desirable in this sort of situation than I do anywhere else at the moment. I often times miss a standard Windows computer at work and find some of the particular weirdness of Mac OS annoying. In the case of the Mac netbook, I find it surprisingly quick and useful for what I do on it. Plus, Mail.App is the best Mail program out there and having it on this little thing is great.
