Ruff_Ryder May 4, 2009 Share Ruff_Ryder Member May 4, 2009 (edited) Every once in a while my PC will just freeze up: 1. Mouse pointer freezes 2. Ctrl-Alt-Del will not work. 3. You have to shut down power to get it to restart. This is a Intel (QX6700) quad core machine running Vista 64 bit. Can anything be done about this? (other than buying a Mac). Thanx. Can you list detailed specs? That's definitely not normal (I see it happen more on Macs actually).

Ruff_Ryder May 5, 2009 Author Share Ruff_Ryder Member May 5, 2009 (edited) when you have to hard boot it, go into the bios and check the temps immediatly, see what your hitting temp wise After you brought up the temp issue I checked my cpu fans and found one completely clogged with dust, cleaned it out and the core temps dropped 10 degrees C (monitoring temps with SpeedFan), I will see how this works out. My core temps were idling at 45 C, now they are sitting at 31-33 C. Edited May 5, 2009 by Ruff_Ryder

Flitterkill May 5, 2009 Share Flitterkill GC Board Member May 5, 2009 I assume you also compressed air'd out the fins on that Tuniq right? I'd also pull that ram and at least reseat it. You smoke? If so (or just for the hell of it anyways) I'd make sure those heat spreaders on the memory haven't gotten gunked up with dust as well. Ditto on the Video Card - pull it and clean/reseat it. Everything so far points to a heat problem of some sort. -Fk

Ruff_Ryder May 18, 2009 Author Share Ruff_Ryder Member May 18, 2009 (edited) *update* I was in the process of installing a new video card so I pulled the RAM and reseated, my machine has been running great. even with the increased temps of the new vid card. (cruises at 40c now). I installed a PCI slot case cooler, it works pretty good. Edited May 21, 2009 by Ruff_Ryder
