Ringadon June 14, 2011 Share Ringadon Member June 14, 2011 (edited) ok... so... I got the Windows Home Security 2012 virus... and that's been dealt with but............. Now my computer doesn't remember how to open .exe files and any time I try to get into anything in the control panel it can't find rundll32.exe which is funny because I'm looking at it right now exactly where it's always been. I've skulked around the internets a bit and found a couple of suggested remedies, one being to execute an xp os repair using my cd (which I do still have) the other is registry editing by putting this Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command] @="\"%1\" %*" into a notepad and saving it as a .reg would that work? Any other grand ideas from the community at large? EDIT: Problem Solved??? It's working now but we'll see in the near future Edited June 17, 2011 by Flitterkill
Flitterkill June 17, 2011 Share Flitterkill GC Board Member June 17, 2011 Man, IPB doesn't want anything to do with that code snipet (in code tags or otherwise) - glad you have this tackled
ZeroDamage June 17, 2011 Share ZeroDamage Member June 17, 2011 I would not trust it. If it were me, I would seriously do a format/reinstall or recovery from backup if you have one.
Preacher June 18, 2011 Share Preacher Member June 18, 2011 yeah same here, seems like it might be a stability issue later and that would scare me.
onyxdragoon June 18, 2011 Share onyxdragoon Member June 18, 2011 Try safe mode with networking and run a full scan of Malwarebytes or restore it to a day without the problem. You could post a log of highjackthis, but I have only small knowledge of reading them but someone else here could read it.
Madvillain June 20, 2011 Share Madvillain Member June 20, 2011 If you haven't already wiped/restored (which would probably be best) you can find some programs out there that will work with the Regedit tool in windows to fix your association errors, but you may have other corruptions that it wont fix.
